Stop me from obliterating him!

Looks like the party's first quest will be to raise 270,000gp to get a book of +5 int and another of +5wis, assuming he can read... maybe pay extra and make them picture books...

Ah I dunno, it made me laugh and reminded me of a Warhammer dwarf I played who had too many head injury's :D

Maybe be nice and just up his Int by 5 before play starts, you're the GM youre allowed

Aren't thoes the stats for Carl Malone? and since I am on it, wouldn't Timmy from southpark have a low wis and int, but high cha. Everyone loved him.

To me he's got a bunch of things.
So his INT is 5 and WIS 7.
He's a musical wizard. He could hear a tune once and play it exactly. (cuz dnd ties music to CHA) He's a master at musical instruments. The dexterity even helps that.
And he's a pretty accurate archer. He can shoot just about anything he wants.
OK if asked about rain he may reply "I've noticed it never rains when its sunny out." And will never understand the explaination. He'll tell jokes, or funny songs, and not know why they're funny, just that everybody laughs when he says/sings that. Heck he'll probably look around when someone says "Duck!" thinking "Really I thought that was an arrow". But he'd dodge it.
My only conundrum is - Does he realize he's not bright or not?

Buzzard you beat me too it.

I was going to say nearly the same thing. Take a look at the quote in my .sig to see a pop star that might have similar intelligence and wisdom scores. ;)

Personally, I have no issue with playing a character with low Int or Wis (or any low stat for that matter).

The problem I have with this character is more of a mechanics issue. The -3 Int penalty means that this character is going to have 1 skill point to spend each level (2 if he's human).

While I like the whole "Low Int and Wis gets him into a lot of trouble but high Dex and Cha gets him out" concept, the fact is that his Dex and Cha are going to do him very little good past the early levels of the game. He can afford to be good in a VERY small number of skills. He can max out 2 skills or be mediocre in about 4.

How will he alocate his tiny number of skill points in order to fulfill the concept. If that question can be answered then I'd say the way is clear to play the character.

Give him warnings that his stats are not an excuse to be annoying or completely disruptive to the game.

If it works out then fine, otherwise unleash the lamias with their wisdom draining touch attacks.

Our party's two paladins each got tooled by lamias in two separate encounters last night in the banewarrens.

You could get past the mechanics problem by giving the bard 6 skill points instead of 4. I play with a house rule like that and it works out just fine.

I think that schporto has the best idea of how to play this character, though. Maybe you should suggest this to the player. It definitely has potential.

But see, my problem lies here:
Str 11, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 5 , Wis 7 , Cha 16.

Lets see, strong as a Human, the dex of a blink dog, the constitution of a human, the intelegence of a otyugh. the wisdom of a (I have yet to find anything with a 7 wisdom, it's less than a orc) , and the charisma of a ogre mage.

Some other creatures with a 5 intelegence, Owlbear, Griffon, Displacer Beast, Remorhaz, Shocker Lizard. So he would make a good mount, animal companion or familiar but it would still be up in the air if he possesed the ability to communicate with speech. (a gibbering mouther has a 4 int, he can speak common but seldom says anything understandable.)

As far as Wisdom goes, a zombie has a 10 wisdom, a troll has a 9 wisdom, a ogre has a 10 wisdom, a hell hound has a 10 wisdom, a dog has a 12 wisdom.

This character will either not be played properly or he will be a bad distraction to the group. (there are not that many owlbear bards out there.)

Edit: A ettin has a 6 inteligence and a 10 wisdom. so the bard could neither match their inteligence or wisdom. And this is supposed to be a elf bard?

I Dunno; even though he fails the PHB "viability test," I'd still try to play 'im, myself.
Err... no he didn't.

Quite frankly, the guy's a retard. There have been enough complaints to convince WotC to up the skill points on the bard which means the majority of people recognize that the bard is a skill-focused character class, and here this moron is crippling his character.

To those that say, "But it's a roleplaying game and if he has fun... blah, blah, puke!" I say they should realize that there are more players than just he and all rely on each others characters in game to fulfill their roles, otherwise the party as a whole is weakened which can cause TPK's or constantly unenjoyable sessions due to constant failures.

Just kick him out. Seriously. Few people have the guts to do that, but at the end of the day, this guy is selfish and has exhibited a total lack of common sense and the ability to think about anyone else but himself which will only manifest throughout the game more and more causing even more problems down the line.

Much like my fighting style I'm a 'nip it in the bud' type of guy. Be the first to punch and the last to punch and you'll always be a winner :D
