Storage for Individual Minis

For storing them at home, I store them in Acro Mils Large Storage Bins, shown in attached pic (don't be fooled by the "Large" title - they're only about 14" x 10" x 2"). If I'm taking a whole bunch somewhere, I'll leave them in their bin and take appropriate bins with me. (I have thousands of the plastic suckers now, so bins are marked are thematic by type: "Aberrations", "Orcs", "Goblins", "Human Fighters", "Magic-Users", "Spiders", etc.)

If I'm taking only a few with me, I'll toss them in a plastic bag, or if I'm taking enough to matter, I'll use multiple bags to separate the different types, and maybe throw the bags in a hard plastic case (like a shoe box sized one).
These are what I use as well, but the store keeps running out... so I have several from other manufacturers.

I keep most of my plastic, rubber, and toy miniatures in pencil boxes. I sometimes use chess pieces as well to mark the baddies I don't have minis for. That is getting done less and less since my collection has grown due to my boss getting out of the hobby and giving me about 800 metal-based minis.

For the painted metal minis, I use the little tool bins you get at the hardware store to sort nuts, bolts, screws and other fasteners. I use pencil boxes with padding for transporting the minis thou.

Anyhoo, here is a pic of my painted minis:

I have over 800 metal-based miniatures, and about 300 plastic/rubber/toy minis. There is a lot of unsorted minis in that upper box I haven't been able to go through yet.

How many do you have in those piks? I have around 3,000 so I'd be interested in how much space that type of storage would take up...

Target used to carry them, but stopped a year and a half ago or so. (I bought them in spurts, about 10 at a time. When I first started buying them from my local target, the price went from $4.99 to $5.99 after I'd bought about 20. :) ) Hobby Lobby carries them now, and the local ones usually have tons. I start scouting for them before a new set comes out, and buy about 5-8 new ones per set. I also have a few smaller containers that you can see on the top right; those will get rotated based on what type I only have a few of, and will get phased out eventually (but I got 'em, so I use 'em).

I have over 6700 DDMs now, and most are in those storage bins (I have 80 total, and they fill up most of one generic Target metal shelf). I think I have a few larger boxes (seen at the bottom, and on the left) that hold the larger larges (dragons, giants, large aspects, demons, etc) and the huges that hold the rest. At the time of the pic, I think I had fewer - maybe 5,500 or so, and they took 70 craft containers, plus the bigger bins for big larges/huges.

The contents of each container vary. Some of the containers hold nothing but smalls and mediums, and they can hold a pretty fair amount per (200+ each). Some of the containers simply hold one large per compartment, which comes out to about 18 per container.

I use baggies for my paper/cardboard counters, and a compartmentalized light toolbox for my counters. That way, it looks like I'm being handy around the house, even when I'm just goofing off...
