Storing D&D Dungeon Tiles?

Howdy fellow ENWorlders!

I've been picking up the new Dungeons Tiles that WotC has been putting out since drawing on battlemaps gets a bit old sometimes, and they're pretty nifty. However, now that I've been playing with them a bit (haven't gotten a chance to use them in game yet), I'm faced with a bit of a problem: How do I store these things once I cut them out of their frames?

What do you folks do? Any super creative solutions? I'm looking for something a bit fancier than plastic bags, but if you've got a good way of keeping them organized in a few bags, then by all means, post those too.

I don't own any personally but here's a thought:

You could get some of those plastic sleaves that fit into binders... slip the pieces in there and store them in a binder.

They make binders that snap closed to form a plastic box (which might work better for fitting in a book bag/ storing on a shelf...)


How big are the things on average? Would they fit in one of those plastic pencil cases? (or are they bigger?)

For right now, mine are in a big plastic bag.

Kinda ghetto, but I'm stumped as well. :\

I have been using what Scribble suggests, I use sheet protectors for the largest tiles, and the slide sheets for anything that has a 2-squares side or 1-square side.

The only thing I don't know yet how to store nicely are the 4x4 tiles.

I'll try to post some pictures when I get home.

Depends on the individual tile: some tiles are a single 1" square, while others are nearly the full 8"x11" size.

Personally, I've been using the extra-large Ziploc freezer and larger storage bags. Allows you to see which tiles are inside, but keeps them from flopping all over.

I saw some sheet protectors in a store once that were designed for photos... So the pockets were smaller and of varying sizes.

They range in size from 1" x 1" little tiles, to 8" x 11" sections of floor, with various shapes and sizes in between.

Carve up a typical D&D dungeon into sections. That's what the tiles'll look like.


I'll have to see what sort of binder things i can dig up. One of the big things i want to be able to do is keep the things organized so i know where pieces are. Like, "here's my big floor sections, here's my rubble, and here's my selection of doors."

Mine aren't particularly organized, but I do keep them safe and relatively easy to cart around by putting them in the box that the D&D Player's Kit came in (the one that has a paperback PHB, a few pamphlets and some dice).

Edit: I also put my Map Packs from Paizo in there too.

I have them categorized mostly by size, but as you know most tiles have a "plain side" and a "feature side", I always store them with the feature-side up.
