[StormFront] PbP Character Thread

Bless This Mess

DougP,

I can get you from the inn to the Vigil squad so unless you all ready have it worked out, don't worry about continuing your story.

Now that Clayton's character is posted it's back to me. I'm really trying to get your handouts finished but I'm trying to do this right and it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I don't want anyone to lose interest before we get started but I also don't want you to lose interest after we have begun. So be be patient a little while longer. I believe it will be worth the wait. I have it all worked out, (I even have it written) I just have to type it and do a little more research on the city map and some other behind the scenes stuff.

In the meantime: let's see some comments on Kaze. The first thing I'd do is re-examine your ability scores. I know you want a balance, but think about what a sorcerer's main scores are and put a few more points in those...namely charisma.

And Vann, if you're reading this, I can work your character in later so even if we get started without you, I can bring you in at almost any time. (Yes, I'm THAT good!) ;)

ps: I've been a little sick the last couple days, and so has Jay...plus I've got my little guys birthday party to organize for this weekend...it's always something to slow things down.

p.p.s: I'll look into etools some. I haven't messed with it much myself yet...I think DougB knows more than I do at this point.

Hey God

I need to know if magical beast is a good choice for my favored enemy. I'm trying to work that into my back story, which I hope to have finished soon.

Favored Enemy

I'll open this up for discussion but here's my opinion for favored enemy.

I researched the PHB and MM (there really wasn't anything about it in the DMG) and I think that unless you chose a creature type that I knew you would have zero chance of ever encountering then picking one type over another becomes somewhat meaningless.

I can't tell you specifically what you'll run into (that'd spoil the surprise) over the next several years. What I can tell you is that from what I've planned and read so far you should have a pretty good shot at just about everything.

That said, I'd consider a specific race (bugbear, orc, troll) as well as an entire type (magical beast) and see which fits your character. Even if you go with something exotic, that will only encourage me to throw it at you later (though probably much later).

Hope this (non)answer helps.

Favored enemy

OK, my back story is finished, with the exception of deciding which favored enemy to pick. I think a specific creature might make more sense for me, be it a magical or non-magical creature. It needs to be something one might encounter deep in a forest (unless I'm going to change my back story). It might also help if it was something wicked and not necessarily easily killed by a young adventurer. You'll see why I say that when I post my story. Can you give me a list of a few monsters that might fit that criteria, and I'll pick one, after looking them up in the MM?

Ranstaar,

One thing to remember about a ranger's favored enemies is that you get a new one at 5th, 10th, 15th & 20th and your bonuses for your previous enemies increase. What these means is that the first favored enemy you pick will be the one you get the most bonuses towards and the last one, therefore, the least. [This info is all on p45 of the PHB.] You could look ahead and try to figure out what you would need big bonuses for later and pick that now, or you could just pick a type of creature to work into your story line and not worry about it. Just a couple of things to think about.

hey mirthcard

wow - i actually remember reading that, but thanks for reminding me. if chris can give me a list of characters to choose from, i'll keep that in mind.

Chris,

Looks like you started a new THREAD for Clayton's character. You need to delete that post (which should delete the thread) and then repost his character as a REPLY here.
