Strange #1
Written by J. Michael Straczynski & Sara (Samm) Barnes
Penciled by Brandon Peterson

The master of the mystic arts is back - as only J. Michael Straczynski and superstar artist Brandon Peterson could envision him! Brash young surgeon Dr. Stephen Strange is on a collision course with destiny - a journey that will force him to search the deepest corners of his own heart...and the outer reaches of the cosmos!

JMS has got a strong track-record these days with the Supreme Power series. I think I'll wait to see what the buzz on Strange is before I decide whether or not to pick it up, though.

I've been a Doc Strange fan for a long time. It's nice to see he's finally getting a chance. Not only that, he's getting a good writer and, from the look of the art in the preview, a good artist. Let's hope both of them are willing to stay on the project for at least a couple years. ;)

^I think it's only a mini-series at this point, but if it does well, it could be around for a long time.
Ah. A trial run, then. Fair enough. Doc Strange has never been the hottest seller. Guess they're going to wait and see how strong a showing Straczynski can produce before giving the go-ahead for a full series.

Still, I liked the feel of the preview. His portrayal of Strange pre-magic is an interesting one and far less one-dimensional than the original. Here, our boy is searching and incomplete even before he's become a doctor, and though arrogant, has also shown signs of the man he'll eventually become.

I'm liking it. I'm liking it a lot. :)

On a related note, I asked the owner of the store I go to about Rising Stars and he said that the next issue is on the way!

Okay, this could be impressive. I wish I had the disposable income to pick up comics...

Come on, you know you want it, plus it's only $3.50. You can manage $3.50 a month can't you? Plus, one comic never leads to more comics.

Just pointing out that the two hawt blondes on page 20 speak actual Swedish. Which leads me to believe that Stephen's pal doesn't know what he's talking about, because English is taught from a pretty early age in schools around here - they might not speak *good* English, but it's a pretty safe bet they speak some of it.

During the three years I lived in Japan, I was amazed at the number of people who, in spite of taking six years of english classes, would refuse to speak it with native speakers. They simply didn't feel confident enough in the language to use it. Perhaps it's the same with our swedish hotties?

Or perhaps Steve's buddy never thought to ask. :p

I have $200 to my name and I don't have a job. Okay?

Ahem...Two things....

First. It's the same size as any other comic out there, and yet it costs 50 cents more than Marvels' newest ongoings. I thought the first issue had a lot of quality, so I'm going to send a message. I'm buying the Trade when it comes out, and ignoring the overpriced miniseries.

The second thing is...A year and a half ago, I bought the trade for Midnight Nation. That was the first comic-related expenditure I had made in 10 years. I followed it up by buying several more trades. Then the first issue of Supreme Power. Then Fantastic Four and Flash...Then She-Hulk, JSA, Teen Titans, Gotham Central...

Not to mention the Sandman Trades, Fables Trades, Lucifer Trades, Backissue Trades of Flash, JSA, and Gotham Central...

It's like an addiction, man!
