Strand of prayer beads funny business

"A strand of prayer beads has a bead of healing, a bead of karma, and a
bead of smiting."

"Reduce the price of a strand of prayer beads that is missing one or more
beads by the following amounts: [...] bead of healing –9,000 gp, bead of
karma –20,000 gp, bead of smiting –16,800 gp, [...]"

"Price [...] 25,800 gp (standard), [...]"

Something doesn't seem to add up here...

Why? There's something wrong with a bead of karma only strand being free? I figured this was just to make up for how weak Clerics and Druids are in the game.

I'm under the impression this wasn't errata'd but it was changed in one of the later books.

I seriously hope you're joking about the Cleric and Druid being weak...I can't tell.

I haven't seen it updated in any newer source, nor is there any errata for it. However, as a DM, I'd say the final pricings listed are a misprint and just go by the -x gp to determine the value of the strands. For example, a Standard Strand of Prayer Beads (bead of healing, karma, and smiting) would cost 45,800 gp. Therefore, a strand with only the Karma bead would cost 20,000 gp.

Either way...just my 2 cp

This is the easiest example to point to of RAW core rules being blatantly in error, without any errata to correct it. When folks say "I play only core RAW and errata with no house rules at all", this is the rule I point to that shows that even they have at least one house rule.

Yes, it's obvious what the correction should be I think. You use the most expensive string to calculate the cost of a necklace with beads missing, I believe.

Cost of Strands:
Lesser: 9,600
Standard: 25,800
Greater: 95,800

Sum of cost of individual components:
Lesser: 9,600
Standard: 45,800
Greater: 95,800

Looks like the standard strand's cost has a simple typo to me. Should have errata, though. Sloppy, that.
