Strange seasoning for hamburger

Or-E-Gone-O...sounds exotic...

In India, I had a great barbeque-type sauce with roast meat in it (probably goat or lamb, but would work with any red meat) that was cinnamon based. It was one of my favorite dishes. Anybody know what that's called?

My best guess is that it was a Garam Masala based curry paste. Garam Masala is a traditional indian blend of spices rich in cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamon, cumin, nutmeg, corriander and black pepper. You can also find it as a paste that makes a great marinade for BBQ. There are a few companies that market it in America. Here in the mid-south we can find indian sauces our larger grocery stores. Check out your ethnic food section and you may well find it.

If that isn't it, then perhaps it was a lamb korma? That's a mild curry with a butter based sauce that includes cream and/or coconut milk with aromatic spice like cinnamon, clove and cardomom.

I'm hardly an expert, I just enjoy occational forays into Indian and Thai restaurants, so someone with more knowledge of Indian Cuisine should be a better source.

I like Allspice in my chili. Sometimes I'll take it further towards an Indian and use a little Garam Masala, sometimes a bit of Chinese 5-spice powder. I've been addicted to dumping ground Chipotle pepper into my chili for the last year, and I usually cook some port wine into it.

The distinctly American turn with spaghetti sauce I encountered was a can of cranberry jelly (!).
