Yeah, I can’t say my D&D games were any better when I was their age.

There are a group of 10 year olds playing in my dining room right at this moment. They are currently trying to find a way to sneak into this dudes house and pee in his shoes.

So my games back in 1e weren’t great but in 1989 I was their age (they were 17-19)and yes they were better. These were seniors in high school.never seen the narrator or dm take over a game unless it was a tpk. I know it was television blah blah or maybe I was lucky as Ravenloft came out years before 89 and they based on the show had been playing just as long

Well, we don't know how much a hassle the 18 months between the gate closing and the show's endings were. We also know that there were factions in the program that were in opposition, at least as far as methodology goes. So it's entirely possible that Dr. Kay's debacle in Hawkins enabled Dr. Owens's faction to regain control, shut the program down, and sweep it under the rug as far as downstream problems for the innocent people swept up in it like Hopper, Joyce, and the kids.

Maybe it's my own experience in the military combined with my knowledge of how the US military typically treats things, but the more likely outcome is that they all disappear from the face of the earth against their will, not almost immediately get released back to their own lives (which is what would have happened in order for them to be at school long enough to not only graduate, but have Dusty be valedictorian. And nothing moves quickly in the army unless it's to destroy something). Dozens of US soldiers got killed by Hopper and El. No one in the military liked them. We know how the military typically treats people it hates who killed their buddies.

*for the record, I'm not super bothered by it because it's a show with a feel good ending and is fictional.
