Strangest character quirks

One wizard character rambled on and on about his life's ambition to make a robe of eyes. He would stop after every combat and examine the eyes of the fallen.

Upon meeting a new NPC, he would get right up in their face and ask them questions about the clarity of their vision, and whether or not they could read things at a distance, or suffered any sort of loss of acuity in dim lighting...

I had a paladin that talked to his sword. At first everyone thought it was a magical sword with a personality, until they found me having a tea party with it and it was wearing a robe and a hat "like a wizard" (the robe was a scarf and the hat was a sock). They had me committed after that one/in game/. It was actually quite fun.

I played a fighter from the Al~Qadim setting that had moved to "barbarian land" to find the remnant of his family. While it was in character, the praying five times a day to Mecca was pretty quirky for the rest of the party. Especially when I would do it in the middle of a battle (let's just say I kept track of time as tightly as the DM did to make sure I wasn't socked with penalties.)

Had a player with a PC deathly afraid of spiders. The player was going to run any encounter with a spider as a phantasmal killer... I was hoping the PC would be alive to face a drider or aranea instead.

Had a ranger in the group who ate dirt. Had a gnome who would flick copper pieces at anyone. The player would practice with pennies between his thumb and forefinger. He got pretty good and would flick pennies at players if they took too long deciding something.

I have a gnome with extreme hydrophobia. Rather humorous given that the party lives on an island for their HQ and owns three ships that they use to get around places.

I ran an orc barbarian with Int, Wis, Cha 6 each whose preferred approach to interacting with new things was on the basis of taste.

Poor guy once electrocuted himself (not fatally) while licking a magical portal. He even tried to apply it in a fight once while fighting an allip. First he tried hitting it and being unable to do so. Then he tried to wrestle it and couldn't. So he finally tried opening his mouth and running back and forth through it, trying to swallow pieces of it. By this time the poor guy was down to 2 Cha (and the other players were hysterical with laughter), so he ran off screaming.
