D&D 5E Street date for D&D Next Starter Game is July 15

Last year they got an autographed adventure for $30 more than the cost of the slots. This year you are paying $100 dollars more than the slots. I would hope it is more than just a signed PHB. The WOTC staff is fairly happy to sign books if you run into them at the con and the book is only $50. I doubt they'd charge that much extra simply because it's a PHB and not an adventure. You'll get SOMETHING else. Maybe not a book.

Maybe you get a PHB and a few con-exclusive miniatures (probably alternate paint jobs of minis in the first set of new D&D minis)?

Having judged for wavester at GenCon 2012, I can say that he IS known for weighing down those active DMs with swag, swag & more swag!
Your donation of your time as a DM for GenCon 2014 will presumably be well worth missing out on the All-Access.
Now, about those hotel rooms...

Back in 2000, my copy of the 3.0 PHB came with a "survival package". Basically, it was an appendix with some magic items, monsters and XP rules, that you're supposed to use until the MM and the DMG were available with the full information. If they're planning on different release dates, I hope the 5.0 PHB receives a similar treatment.

Personally, I kinda hope they don't. Instead, I'd rather they put the "survival package" online, and possibly freely available in stores, but separate from the PHB. It may be nitpicky of me, but once the 3e DMG and MM were out those few extra pages in the PHB always bugged me. :)

It has been stated on this blog that "Book 2" of Tyranny of Dragons will contain monster statistics. It is further implied that they are sufficient to run Dead in Thay (as well as, presumably, Tyranny of Dragons). That suggests to me that the "Starter Game" (or a subsequent release at Gen Con, I guess) may contain a bestiary comparable to the playtest packet.

Indeed. I mentioned a few different ways they could provide enough monsters for play. To be honest, I would be surprised if they used just one such method - I would expect there to be monsters in the Starter Set and the adventures and the playtest packet and some sort of "survival kit".

The lack of new news is making me nostalgic for when this thread first started. Oh man, what an awesome time to be a D&D fan. Waiting for news on the new edition can be frustrating, but I love it.

I really thought there'd be an official announcement this past Thurs or Fri, since we're 60 days from a Jul 15 release date.
I find it strange that a product being released less than two months from now hasn't been announced.
Here's hoping for something on Monday!

From the RPG Pundit, who is one of the paid consultants for 5e D&D for WOTC:

"I've had personal assurances from the highest levels that this box set will be more than just crippleware. Mind you, that may not mean anything, I don't know for sure. I have not yet seen the final product with my own eyes."

And it has a description
Explore subterranean labyrinths! Plunder hoards of treasure! Battle legendary monsters!

The Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set is your gateway to action-packed stories of the imagination. This box contains the essential rules of the game plus everything you need to play heroic characters on perilous adventures in worlds of fantasy.

Ideal for a group of 4 – 6, the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set includes a 64-page adventure book with everything the Dungeon Master needs to get started, a 32-page rulebook for playing characters level 1 – 5, 5 pregenerated characters, each with a character sheet and supporting reference material, and 6 dice.
