Student's First

Student's first, that's the unofficial motto of the Bishop's University Administration, as they keep telling us.

What a crock.

In the three years that I've attended this university, all I've seen from the adminsitration self-centered, arrogant attitudes with little regard for the well-being of the student. Not once have I seen them seriously consider the affects of their policies on the student population. This rant comes curtesy of the latest outrage they've perpetrated, in that they've reduced my residence internet speeds to 20 kbps upload and download from the 500 it was last semester. I am paying for high speed internet, and they are not delivering on that deal.

God, I hate my university's administration. If it wasn't such a hassel, and if I wan't in my last year, I'd seriously consider changing universities.

This honestly surprise me as universities are the very few places where really high-speed internet connections are common, at least so I thought.

What's the reason behind this? Aren't there someone you can complain to?

Wow! That's really slow for "highspeed internet!" Man I would be pissed! Like Psionicist asked, What is the reason behind this? There must be some reason they limited your speed.....unless some of the techies decided to jack up their speed by slowing everyone elses down.....

If it is really "Student's First", rather than "Students First", I think there's an in-joke involved and their administration is having you all on. Student's first what?

(There are answers that come immediately to mind given that it is Bishop's University, but none that Eric's Grandma would appove of. ;) )

No reason, no warning, they just did it. Hell, they didn't even tell us, I had to find out from a friend in the CS department. As for complaints, I've sent the routine letters, but they've been mostly useless in the past, I don't expect anything to come from it. Since they make over twenty five thousand dollars a month off of Reznet subscriptions, I highly doubt this is a financial issue.

It's a public university, and given that I'm not dead, it's certainly not a religious one. Don't get me started on religious based education. It was just founded by a Bishop a long time ago.

My guess it has to do with you crazy college kids downloading music and moves 24/7. :)

At least, that's been the reasoning behind every form of "limiting internet availablity" scheme I've ever seen from a university.
