Stunning Fist & Big Creatures?

Any precision-based attack should be effected in the same way. But it would be more a monster-specific thingy in it's stat block. Similar to a construct or undead but only on it's lower portions of course. Though this doesn't make much sense either, as a hamstrign and such culd still be done for vulnerable areas down low. *shrugs* just a thought twas all.

A stunning attack on a dragon could be poking him in the eye. If the dragon can Threaten me with his teeth, I do not see why a lucky shot in the eye would be impossible.

BTW, that Tiny fairy has to hit, which is not a gimme for something so weak that must walk into the dragon's space to attack at all.

The entire point of the game is to allow the (usually) medium humanoid PCs to potentially achieve virtually inconceivable successes against ridiculously potent foes. If I want "realism", I would say that the Great Wyrm eats the whole party like in classic BRP Call of Cthulu. You know what happens when you fight Great Cthulu? He eats 1d4 targets per round.

That lil halfling monk pulling off a miracle and stunning a Great Red Wyrm who botched his save would probably be one of those never forgotten moments in a gaming group's history. So... I'd probably give it a thumbs up for happening as a DM.

Poor little halfling monk is not allowed to run under the dragons tail and headbutt his crown jewels there?

I can hear his compadres calling out to him-

Party: "Kick him in the nards!"

Shortstuff the Monk : "Dragons got nards?"

Actually, since dragons are some (mythical) branch of the reptile family, and reptiles' "nards" are (as far as I recall) kept internally (to keep them from dragging the ground, etc), and accessible only through the cloaca...the answer would be no.

The halfling would have to perform a modified version of the "Steve Irwin Crocodile Probe" by climbing INSIDE the dragon to access the nards before kicking them. (Mental image of red dragon with bulging eyes singing "Moon River.")

Of course, if he DID that...ah, what stories the bards would sing!

Um, what stories WOULD the bards sing?

I think that's kind of in keeping with the theory of a monk. He fights this huge beast, no one can hit it, no one can hurt it. With a lucky shot, the monk strikes a pressure point on the toe, and the dragon freezes up for a second. After the battle, the dumbfounded party looks at him, he bows and says "the powers of the spirit are greater than any sword, and more powerful than any spell".

As the collosal wyrm lowers its head to look at the insignificant gnat that has been hopping around it, it gives a snort of derision... and the tiny gnat lands a flying kick into its nostrils and the dragons cringes back, wiping away at it in pain. (for 6 seconds)

Its all in the flavor... ;)

Well, if you cna attack a dragon normally, and you can sneak attack it normally, why nerf the monk?

Don't forget sneak attack DOES require you to be able to reach the guts of the victim, many try to convieniently forget that.

The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment or striking the limbs of a creature whose vitals are beyond reach.

The monk aboility does not require this.

The DC is pretty low so it won't bug the BIG BAD too often.

This actually happened IMC. The dwarf monk successfully stunned an adult wyvern (I advance wyverns like true dragons) when the wyvern rolled a 1 on its Fort save. I rolled the save in front of the players, and only a 1 could fail... The wyvern was killed before taking another action. Since it was a random encounter I wasn't too fussed as a DM, but the players were pretty happy that their monk had stunned a Huge creature.

On the other hand, I would have a bit of a problem with a Small creature stunning a Colossal creature.

Cheers, Al'Kelhar

There is a creature, the Mantis Shrimp, that can punch through 1/4" tempered aquarium glass or break fingers badly enough to require amputation. That is enough damage to be fatal if the attack happened at a vital area.

So if a 3"-10" shrimp can do that much harm to a 6' human, its not inconcievable that a monk could stun a dragon.
