Stupid Question: PC death and multiclassing

Maul Ironbender

First Post
All,

I need help with this one. I have a Wizard 7/ Fighter 2 that just bought it twice in one session- I'd just gotten the point blank and precise shot feats that I'd really wanted too! The thing that really sucks is that due to work I couldn't even attend that session! At any rate, despite the fact that he'd died twice, my character accrued enough experience to be level 8.

So at this point, where am I? Does my character lose all the feats and class abilities that he had acquired, or has he just accrued two "negative levels", one of which has already been reacquired? If the character has "lost" the two fighter level (acquired at character levels 8 and 9, respectively), could I re-take level 8 as a mage instead? So confused...

Any help at all in this area would be greatly appreciated!

That's pretty harsh to die twice when you weren't even there. Were you raised from the dead twice?

I'm going to have to disagree with CRGreathouse here (at least I think I am I may be confused on the which of his answers applies to which question :D ). The levels you lost are not negative levels, but actual bonafide levels so you loose all the benefits from the last two levels you took. As far as wether you can make a different choice for level 8, wizard as oppossed to fighter, that's more of a DM call, but I would say that you can.

Yup,

My fellow players were kind enough to raise me twice. The module- Rappan Attuk 2. My opinion- shoddily done, few attmpts at making a reasonable ecology, way overpowered for its advertised CR rating- don't buy it.

We're still having fun in it though :)

I have to agree with EOL and you were dealt a harsh blow! You do lose last 2 levels you gained and all hit points, abilities, and feats, as well as skills ouch! I see no reason why you cant take a level of wizard. Dieing now is brutal!

who played your char if you weren't there? Did another player use it as NPC? or did the DM just play it?

I would say that this is a lil mean of him to play your char and thenkill and resurrect and kill again without your knowledge... did you give permission for them to play your char?

If not, then I would say that you get no Xp from that adva nd you do no lose any lvls cause you did not play.

If you look at it in real life (funny to look at fantasy in respect to RL), you have a job as a filing clerk. And if you did not come to work on wednesday, and your coworker did the filing for you on your behalf (and not your knowing) and messes up the filing where everythign is in the wrong place, do you get fired for it?

And along the same lines, do yougetpaid for "working" that day?

I would say that since you were not there, and you did not mess up in any way, you do not get dinged fro screwing up, and also you dont get any xp for not adventuring...

if you do... then the DM is just being a BIG MEENIE...

I actually inflicted it all on myself.

I am a pharmacy manager- and my partner quit, so now I live at my store basically and get pissed off at my medicaid customers. Wanting desperately to remain in the campain, I had one of my best friends play my character. The module? The above mentioned Rappan Attuk 2. The foes? Eight mind flayers. Mind flayers are pretty nasty- especially against 4 9th level chracters. I guess my character was the first one to get mind sucked. Then, after being resurrected he somehow had the bad luck of getting eaten by the cerebrus thing on the cover of the module.

Thanks a lot for both the advice and the empathy. I think that I'll take level 8 as a wizard level so I can attempt to conquer the impossible levels of spell resistance in this ridiculous module.
