Styx

Oh man, I saw the title, and thought this was an 80's rock theemed adventure. That would be cool!

"DO MO A RI GA TO - DRA GON RO BA TO ! ! THANK YOU ! ! I WANT TO THANK YOU ! !"

Hmm, well maybe not...

As for the river, why not call the amnesia an effect you can resist? Use the drowning rules, or even the cold water rules to let the PC's resist it for a while (a few rounds).

Just tell your player to "Come Sail away"

(If you did not gag about this joke something is really wrong with you or your just too young)

Hydroloths = not by WotC, but Pants has updated them I think
Amnizu = Fiend Folio IIRC
Marraenoloths = MM II
Yugoloths = [Mezzoloth, Canoloth, Nycaloth, Ultroloth]MotP or MMIII, [Marraenoloth, Arcanaloth, Yagnoloth]MMII, [Piscaloth, Skerroloth]Fiend Folio

what is IIRC?? sorry i have not seen that before

Shemeska: WOW that's a lot of good info thanks... This will help me Giving my own flair to styx... after reading your post i have a ton of ideas running threw my head. Not to mention Questions. My first is how the Hell am i going to get my PCs threw that river... anyway that's my problem.

Hydroloths, Wastriliths, perhaps Amnizu, Marraenoloths, and Yugoloths... have any of these been changed to 3e? and if so where can i find them. (i don't care about WOTC stuff i'm after anything)

Dose the river give off a magic aura? (this is up to the DM but still looking for opinitons) if it dose i would think necromacy?

oh and sorry about the veil thing it was a typo- but i changed it...

Everyone else: thanks, this is such a great messageboard with people with great ideas.

Carl

ps. any ideas on running a epic group threw an adventure like this please post! and any more info of Carceri or Styx that i should not forget please let me know
Welcome to the boards, Carl!
These boards are a big help in every aspect of adventure design and running a table and free therapy and mixed legal advice, and well, all sorts of good stuff. . . when it comes to planar questions, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better resource than Shemeska, King of the Crosstrade. As for the source for fiends, I thought I had all of these in hardback from WotC sources, but, now I can't find any of them. I think all of them have been up[dated. There's a link around here somewhere to a monster index. (BTW, hydroloths and marrenoloths are two different sub-categories of yugoloth, as are, IME, pretty much any monster that ends in -loth(s). I think that the wastriliths, and possibly the amnizu, are tanar'ri, demons. I only posted because I thought I had something to contribute, but now I'm not finding the sources to pass on. Check out the thread linked in my signature. (oh, and, fair warning: try to take it in stride if folks pick on you about your spelling/grammar/punctuation/proofreading here.) I'll try to post something more constructive later.

Can't believe I forgot about the Styx Dragons. I've even used them in Carceri before. Thanks for pointing that out Alz.

For what it's worth, my storyhour has a Marraenoloth ferrying the PCs across Acheron's 1st layer in the first real plot arc. I also have a scene with Cerlic/Charon the Marraenoloth Lord in the storyhour as well, Not the last section, but the one right before it.

It's worth noting that Cerlic (aka Charon) is a fool-proof way to utilize the Styx, assuming you can pay him. He charges 100 platinum pieces per person per planar layer crossed though, and (IIRC) 500 pp per person per plane crossed on top of that. Anyone who can't pay (or calls him without sufficient funds) is dumped in the river, or attacked (he can form a water elemental out of the Styx). He does accept magic items as payment though.

Instead, he should just charge the traditional 2 copper pieces (or silver piece) and refuse all the PP and GP the party carries around with them, only accepting 2 copper pieces. If they're like the group I play with, they never bother carrying copper.

that would be great!! After that i will have to make sure that no one has Copper anywhere on the plane (it would be worth so much !!)

Thanks for the Welcome Mr. Wyrm I try and fix my Spelling from time to time but it also gets to be a pain in the butt... You guys have lots of great advise and ideas!
