Subdual and Critical Hits

Well, back in the day I remember someone on these boards telling me that an attack with a normal weapon intending to do subdual cannot inflict a critical hit. Recently I brought this up in another thread and someone called me out on it, and to my suprise, I couldn't find the rule.

So is this some strange hallucination on my part? Or is it just a conspiracy by my books?

I have not seen any such rule in the books. Perhaps it was in the FAQ's or a sage advice?

I know a subdual weapon (like a whip) can get a critical, so I think any weapon used for subdual damage could also get a crit.

Sure you can. As long as the natural d20 roll is within the weapon's critical threat range and you still hit after the -4 penalty.
