Subdual vs. Non-lethal

In Modern, you only make a saving throw if you take non-lethal damage in excess of your Constitution score. Otherwise non-lethal damage has no effect.
I confessed. I have applied nonlethal damage toward MDT (which can be improved by a certain feat or talent beyond the base value = Con score) when I should have used the defender's Con score. :(

But still, there is no way you can knock someone out who happens to have a score of 16+, with or without unarmed attack (e.g., tonfa).

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, you should use MDT (Con+possible Improved MDT feat) in both cases, as far as I know.

Strong5/Soldier2

Occ: Brawl
Two first level feats: Whatever
Level three or six: Streetfighting

Strong1 Melee Smash
Strong2 Power Attack
Strong3 Improved Melee Smash
Strong4 Improved Brawl
Strong5 Advanced Melee Smash
Soldier1 Weapon Focus:Unarmed
Soldier2 Weapon Spec:Unarmed

16Str at 7th level (15 +1 at 4th)

1d8 +3 Str +3 Smash +2 Spec +1d4 Streetfighting = 1d8+8+1d4 (average 15, ranges from 10 to 20)

Attacks at +6 +3 Str +1 Focus = +10/+5

Completely tricked out, but not impossible. I even have feats left over to do something other than that. I didn't count crits or Knockout stuff, since, well, I hate depending on a crit to accomplish something, and Knockout stuff is only valuable in the first round (although this guy with Improved Init and Knockout Punch is pretty nasty).

Or was I misunderstanding your question?

EDIT: And, on a tongue-in-cheek note, another 7th-level build that can get 16+ damage.

Decicated3/Investigator 4

Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Chainsaw

A 4th-level Investigator can attack with a weapon and do nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage without taking the –4 penalty. So, technically, your guy could do 3d6+Str nonlethal damage with that chainsaw. That's without adding in potential mastercraft stuff, taking 1.5x Str damage into account for weapon size, considering Power Attack, or adding in additional damage from other sources.

Although I'd spray Jamba Juice across my gaming sheet from laughing so hard if someone tried to do that in my game.

Edit: My bad.

Actually, I'm going to experiment with the pre-errata'ed version of d20 Modern nonlethal damage rules.
