Subscription up

So, my DDI subscription is up. Long ago (months!) I turned off auto-renew. This is the e-mail I got from Wizards about my account about to expire.

To renew your subscription, you'll want to wait 29 days until your subscription is completely finished. You'll have a few days grace period before your access to D&D Insider officially goes away. At that time, please place a new subscription order at [Website].

Please note -- if you want to use Manual Renewal again, you will need to notify Customer Service in order to turn off Auto-Renew on your new purchase. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working on streamlining this process.

Two things
1. If I want to renew, I have to wait until my subscription expires before I do so? That's really odd. You've got all my account info, you can't add more time until the current time ends? What?

2. I'm now forced to use auto-renewal unless I jump through unknown WotC hoops (do I need to call customer service just to turn off auto-renewal?).

Wacky stuff WotC.

They can't add time. They can only tag an anniversary date for when your next subscription expires.
And yes, that is a dumb way of doing things.

As for the auto-renew vs. manual-renew issue. Call me a cynic, but I think they may have "de-prioritized" fixing that issue, as I seem to remember having a similar problem back when I had a subscription.

Yeah I got the same thing about a month before my sub was up. I read and reread it just to make sure it was still going to end on time and I was not going to be charged. Does show the faith i have in WotC not to screw people over I guess.
