Sudden metamagic into ring of spell storing?

Can you use a sudden metamagic feat to cast a spell into a ring of spell storing to keep down the spell levels occupied while keeping the benefits of the metamagic?

I don't see why you couldn't, but I might be missing something obvious.

Unfortunately, there are no rules on it. Nor are there rules on pricing magic items built of such feats (including the rods and divine metamagic). It's generally accepted to use the modified level for pricing items, and thus the modified level (virtual) should be used for things like spell storing items, wands, potions, etc. So, no wand of empowered magic missile made with sudden empower or a rod of lesser empower.

I don't see why you couldn't, either. I probably wouldn't allow magical items to be BUILT using the method, IE wands and potions and such, but the Spell Storing ring gives you a nebulous value of X Levels Of Spells that the character must then fill. You have to have someone with the Sudden Feat available to plug it in there in the first place.

The ring wasn't written with that in mind. It should take up levels equal to the appropriate regular metamagic feat.

I can think of no reason why not.
Normally you store a spell on some day when you're not adventuring. Effectively, you're getting around the 1/day limit of the sudden metamagic feat/storing a more powerful spell than intended in the ring. It's not a huge benefit, but for someone with a lot of the Sudden feats it might get a bit out of hand. Certainly, worth considering the balance issues.

Mmmm... got me thinking. I have a 14th level druid with Sudden Extend and Sudden Maximise. I'll have to review my spell list to see what I can squeeze into my staff via the Spellstaff spell.

Would you be able to apply a sudden mete-magic feat to a spell being cast from a spell storing item? I would say no, but I would rule that applying a sudden meta-magic feat to a spell being stored in such an item, would be able to be sudden meta-magicked when cast later.

Personally, i would not have a problem with the OP's concern as long as it didn't get out of hand. Luckily my group understands this.

Don't forget that, since it is an item, and not the raw spell, it is at least a standard action to cast a spell out of the ring. Our healer threw a close wounds in a ring of spell-storing, fat lot of good that did us. Glitterdust was a much better use of the 2 spells levels available. Somebody in the effect rolled a 1 both times I used it. ;)
