Suggest some changes to the main page!

I was thinking that the news page has looked the same for quite a while now, and I for one am itching for something a little fresher. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not talking about rearranging the whole site, just making the odd change to make things a bit more interesting, layout-wise - plus, with luck, managing to highlight the content of the page without it all getting lost in the mass of information which is there right now.

The layout is fairly sound as it is. Just has a bit much "stuff" all right there. I think two good (to me) changes might be to not list so many "Sci-fi & Fantasy News" links, maybe just the five newest, and add a button type link to the rest. Same for the WotC Product Schedule. Make the type a teensy bit bigger, too. I find it hard to read, but that might be related to the next thing. I know all this grey is "hardcore" or something, but lighten up! Literally. The yellow and grey combo feel hard on my eyes after awhile, and I don't have that problem with other light-colored sites (can we get a color-facelift for the messageboard too? I hate the other default choice).

Just my .02, take with grain of salt, blah, blah, blah.

The only things I would really do are remove the covers from the WotC product schedule on the bar... otherwise, the page has a decent layout, loads fairly quickly and is intuitive to use. I think trying to tweak it is just going to muck things up.

Excellent. If I can find someone to Photoshop the image, I'm all for it. The real spear through the real head is problematic since my wife would probably object.

But seriously, the idea of using a little art isn't a bad one I think. Wouldn't want to get carried away, of course. Also, perhaps some "advertising" for hot story hours or PBP games? Something along the lines of: Check out this hot PBP game about blah blah blah blah by clicking here.

Oh, c'mon! You gotta get your own way at least every once in a while. Marriage is supposed to be a compromise - If she won't allow you the full spear through the head, maybe she'll go for a javalin in your ear?

Hm. Turn that around - the "hot" story hours and PBP games don't need ads. The ones that are good, but don't get read because everybody's reading the "hot" ones need ads. A "Morrus' Pick of the <insert time period here>" wouldn't go amiss.
