Suggested Bard spells 3rd/4th level

Recognizing that there are a lot of people here who know the books and rules better than I do, I'd like to tap into that collective of knowledge, wisdom, and creative insanity.

I'm running a Bard who's about to break 9th level. He has a 22 Charisma, 9 Strength, 16 Int, 10 Wis, 14 Dex and 12 Con.

His Feats are: Lingering Song, Brew Potion, Fey Heritage (gift from the DM), and Versatile Performer.

His Perform and Diplomacy checks are pretty much maxed out, his UMD is pretty good, as is his Bluff.

9th level doesn't get him any new spells, but 10th will get him another 3rd and two 4th level spells.

Any suggestions for good ones? I'm looking for stuff from outside the PHB/SRD.

I have PHB2, Complete Scoundrel, Complete Arcane, Complete Divine, Complete Mage, Exalted Deeds, Magic of Faerun, Spell Encyclopedia, and a fair number of others.

His current 3rd level spells are Haste, Sepia Snake Sigil and Summon Monster III.

Suggestions (and sources) appreciated.

Are you considering Sublime Chord PrC? It's pretty good, you enter at 11, and it does weird things to your 3rd and 4th level spells known and per day.

By RAW, you seem to cease learning 3rd level, though, which means you end up with almost no 3rd level spells known/per day, even as you climb towards 9th level spells, which is silly. It's something to ask your DM about ("Can I continue progressing 3rd level spells as if i was still a Bard?") and obviously could affect your 3rd level spell choices.

I do think you should swap out Summon Monster 3 as soon as you're allowed to. Soon you'll be at the point where actual wizards can use SM 6+. The SM line isn't very good for Bards due to the delayed progression (even after Sublime Chord kicks in).

Spells from SpC to look at:

Level 3
Dirge of Dischord (being evil and mind affecting makes it less appealing, though)
Ray of Dizziness (No save and screws noncasters; mind-affecting, though)
Unluck
Treasure Scent

Level 4
Fugue (Somehow it's NOT mind-affecting! If you can make the DC 40, you can make foes kill each other while you watch!)
Protege (Used with Dragonfire Inspiration so an ally can still give +X Insp. Courage along with your +Xd6)
Ruin Delver's Fortune (can be a lifesaver)
Voice of the Dragon (nice long duration buffs; can blow it for a higher DC Suggestion)

I'm playing a Bard. No matter what I do, he'll end up knowing almost no 3rd level spells.

At 10th level, he'll know 4. If I stayed with Bard until level 20, he'd end up knowing 5. So I'm not exactly giving up much in the 3rd level when I go to Sublime Chord at 11.

And, ironically, I'll have two 4th level Bard spells after 10th, and then pick up both 4th and 5th level Sorcerer spells when I switch to Sublime Chord at 11th. I'll be light on 3rds and double stacked on 4ths. The PRC makes you a high level Sorcerer, but not a low level one. (He could learn Delayed Blast Fireball, but not plain old Fireball.

As for the SM3...

My character is Half Satyr, which means he has cloven hooves and horns. Recently he's been challenged, twice, and accused of being a demon. They wanted to know how he even entered the temple, and they weren't going to listen to any lies about him not being some sort of fiend. So he cast SM3, and called up a Celestial Hippogriff. They were floored that he could summon a Celestial creature at all, and frustrated when the "demon" hopped onto its back and made his escape. It was quite an exit, all things considered.

So while the character doesn't count on that as a combat spell, its RP potential is wonderful.
