Suggestions for 3.5 Dragonlance Ranger

I just wrote up a DL 3.5 Ranger for a new campaign yesterday. Nothing others here haven't suggested, I opted for Kagonesti, Enemy: Dragons (which does indeed cover draconians), Point Blank Shot (aiming for Archery Style), and a longsword for backup. I considered greatsword, but it didn't seem Elven. I also considered Longspear (a favored weapon for Kags) but switching between it and a bow just seemed like it would appear very awkward. A chain shirt and shortsword round out the combat equipment. My goal is to be a primary archer in combat, with good skills in search, spot, listen and track.
Note: as a Kag, you do not get Common as a free language, so you either need a 12 Int (not likely with a -2 racial adjust) or 2 skill points saved. I almost missed this.

Heh, I've seen this happen before. A player who didn't realize that his character wasn't starting out with Common, but because of a low INT, couldn't buy it. Had to have everything translated for him until 2nd-level, when he could spend some SP's for Common.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Humans and dragons seems to be the way to go for the first two favored enemies. I thought that draconians were considered monstrous humanoids, finding out htey are considered dragons is definitely useful. Does anyone know if orcs even officiallly exist in DL? I've heard them mentioned in some of the novels, but goblins seem to be much more prevalent. I wonder if half-orcs will even be a standard PC race.

No. There are no orcs or half-orcs in the Dragonlance setting. Nor are there lycanthropes, drow elves, driders, mind flayers, or gem dragons.

Just to cover a few other bases. :)

Cheers,
Cam

Which doesn't mean you can't put them in just the annoy some players. Orc, btw could easily be the offspring of an unholy union between Draconian and human (especially when you compare them to the pictures WotC has put online).

What's the race of the barbarians in Dragons of the Summer Flame then?

Those are the Tarmak, or (as the inhabitants of Ansalon called them) the Brutes. They're related to humans and were more or less roped into service by the Dark Knights to act as shock troops. Their blue warpaint is magical and protects them for a short space of time.

You can even play one of them in the setting. The rules for the tarmak as a PC race are in the Age of Mortals campaign companion hardcover.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks. The descriptions in the book always screamed "orc!" in my head though for some reason. You know, big dumb barbarians with pointed ears...
