Suggestions for multiclass

Wizard is actually a suboptimal multiclass choice for this particular character, as the party he's in is presumably around eighth level as well. The extra first-level spells would not be of great utility ... The arcane archer is probably the only core PrC that makes sense, and even that depends to a certain extent on the particular spells he's chosen. Virtuoso might be a decent choice if he likes to use his musical abilities more than his Bardic Knowledge, but that's the only other reasonable option I see. The only good reason I can see for taking a Wizard level would be to make up for his lack of Use Magic Device skill by extending the range of items he is eligible to use without that skill ... Any other non-PrC class will incur x.p. penalties for a long, long time.

Staying Bard is an obvious choice. Bards really aren't made for multiclassing, as they have many talents. That's good if you value your versatility.

You could, of course, become a virtuoso, improving your bardic music ability with the virtuoso performances, but you'd have a crappy BAB and your bardic knowledge would improve no further. That's good if you want to be a real good performer

You could also become an arcane archer. Your talents with the bow would greatly improve, you'd have BAB as a fighter and good saves, but most of the stuff that make a bard a bard (bardic knowledge, spells) would cease to get better. That's good if you want to improve your skills with your bow.

You could become a dragon disciple (if you speak draconic and put all your skill points in the next level-up into Knowledge(Arcana)). Your usual talents as a bard would all but cease (some bonus spells, but you won't get higher spell levels), but you would get some cool abilities, like bite and claw attacks, natural armor, better hit dice, ability boosts, a breath weapon, wings.... That's gould if you want to have a real special character.

I disagree. One of their primary abilities can still increase in power when taking a different class.

Whatever class you decide to pick up make sure that Perform is a Class Skill.

Bingo, smetzger. One of the real strengths of the bard class ... and actually, with an 18 Int, it's not all that important that Perform be a class skill. The max rank still goes up one per level when you multiclass, and he'll have the skill points to spare to dump two per level into Perform. (Not saying it's not better, but I think it's a relatively minor consideration.)

If you plan on picking up bard levels later, you can ignore the Perform skill for the moment and make up the difference later.

A level of Sor or Wiz would be near useless unless you have your heart set on a familiar.

Maybe Fighter to pick up more bow feats. A level of Ranger would allow you to pick up Track and 8 ranks of Wilderness Lore in one shot.

Cleric with Luck and Travel would useful for Domain abilities, but the spellcasting would not be of any help.
