Level one single round use of spell

Nice doggie, you touch the glowing rune.

LMAO!!!!!!

Yup, that's about it. I painfully remember playing a 1st level sorceror with SM1. One full round to cast, *poof* *bite* *poof*....

But just wait, the summon spells are very useful at later levels and can actually take the place of many other spells (quite important for a sorceror).

I would also highly suggest digging through the archived pages in this forum to find the various Summon Monster threads which include house rules to make them more useful.

My favorite use of summon 1.
"you think the room's trapped?"
"i'm not going in to find out"
*summon*
*boom*
"yup. it's trapped"

Hey, Baumi, I know I've asked but, you chosen a Kobold name? ;) I'm curious which one you're going to go for.

I think it will be Ak'iss because it sounds very cool and Lizard-like, but I'm not 100% sure ... Meepo is just too funny to drop and there two additinal Names (I have them written at home) wich sound also very intersting ..... oh my, always these hard decitions :)

Have FUN!
Baumi

P.S.: Thanks for the Ideas!

Bad me summoned a fiendish gorilla recently to carry a really evil artifact (noone of us wanted to touch it, and we didn't have enough time to rest and learn telekinesis), while teleporting to a temple, where it could be secured. ;)

An NPC of mine made good use of the higher level summon monster spells (I guess at mid level they work, too, never tried, tho). With the insane Spell Resistance the creatures get and the nice smite ability, they are more than a mere distraction.

They die fast, but you need to deal with them, as many of the summoned monsters can deal quite some damage (or do other nasty things, like grapple) and once duration exceeds 5 rounds, they stay around long enough to be useful.

Also, some of the higher level summon monster spells can get you creatures with useful out of combat abilities, too.

How close to the temple did you get within the 1r/level duration? I wouldn't have thought the gorilla could have carried it very far ;)

And again another question :p

What is the easiest Method to command them?

Most of them are Animals (at low levels) and to give them orders (so they will do other things than attacking) you have to speak there language....

Have FUN!

Got the mental image of someone having a few seconds to explain something to a gorilla in "gorilla". I know fiendish have at least 3 int and can potentially speak a languages and that there is magic that can solve that problem. But still.
