Summoner (Relics & Rituals) special abilities

The Summoner's special abilities are a metamagic feat for summoning spells and then a bonus summoning spell per day, alterating up to 10th level. In the description of the metamagic feat it says "... may only be used with summoning spells". Alright, still makes sense. Then later in the paragraph it says "apply only to the bonus spells gained as a summoner".

Well, at first level, when you get your first such metamagic feat, you don't have any bonus summoning spells yet. That part doesn't make any sense. I checked the errata but the Summoner has not been errata'd. Anybody know how this is meant? It makes a huge difference whether or not you can use that extra feat with all your summoning spells or just 1-5 times a day, depending on your level and how many bonus spells you have so far.

Thanks!

IMC, the Summoner I play only gets to use the special metamagic feats on his Special Summons. So AFAIK, you'll only get to use them 1-5 times per day and you can't stack em (but you can stack with your own metamagic feats or those granted by a Rod or somesuch).

So at 1st level of the PrC, you basically don't get anything? You get a metamagic feat you can't use? Bummer.

If the metamagic feats are intended that way, it should be the other way around. At odd levels you get a spell, and at even levels you get a feat...

I have played with this class and in my own experience it doesn't hurt balance if you apply it to all summon Monster spells. Admittedly it increases the power a bit, but the summon monster spells are a little underpowered.
