I decided to create a complete monster summoning list for my wizard (currently only at 2nd-level), and so I created a document with the stats of all the creatures a wizard could summon with the Summon Monster I spell. I made it a two-part document. The first bart has the descriptions of Anarchic, Axiomatic (both from MotP), Celestial and Fiendish templates; and the second part has all the base creatures. So, it's a simple matter of applying the chosen template to any creature I wish.
However, I wanted to add the other templates from the MotP: air, earth, fire and water element creatures, and the shadow creature template.
Since the base Celestial and Fiendish creatures don't change the CR of the base creature if the creature has up to 3 HD, I figured Axiomatic and Anarchic templates should be treated exactly as Celestial and Fiendish templates, i.e. my wizard could summon an anarchic cire rat as easily as a fiendish one.
The shadow creature template is a bit tougher, so I figured I'd treat the shadow creatures as one level higher; i.e. my wizard could summon a shadow dire rat with a Summon Monster II spell.
but I'm having a bit of a problem with the four element creature templates (I decided to ignore the wood and cold element creature template). They change CR of base creatures just like Celestial and Fiendish templates do, but I can't help but think they are a bit more powerful. For example, air and earth element creatures have great movement capabilities (fly 100 ft. (perfect) and burrow 20 ft., respectively), fire element creature have the heat and burn abilities. Only the water element creatures don't seem all that tough.
So, what do you think?
