Sunless Citadel thanks

This is the best place I know of to publicly thank Bruce Cordell, Miranda Horner, Ed Stark and everyone else who was resposible for the creation of the module THE SUNLESS CITADEL. I ran a group through this module some years back, when it first came out. I am now running a completely different group through it and both times it has worked great. The thing that amazes me is how the set elements, theoretically the same for each group, produce very different, yet equally fun, results for each of my gaming groups. I don't really know what particulars separate a good module from a great one, but this one is great. Thanks for making it.

P.S. This time the party has decided to not return the dragon. Meepo has suggested that if HE were leader of the kobolds, HE would let the party keep the dragon.... The party(I think) will next week willingly stage a coup and put Meepo on the Kobold Throne. I can't wait to see what actually happens.

Well as to where to put this. I think it wouldn't have been wrong to put it in the general forum where it would have gotten more attention, but don't worry, there are people here in the off-topic too.

To the topic itself. Yeah. I agree. It is perhaps the best published WotC adventure. Not to mention that Meepo has become somewhat iconic kobold over the years. Perhaps the best laughs I got was when I noticed that a kobold in D20 Modern was wearing a military uniform with name-tag "Meepo" ;)

well of a moderator sees this and is willing to move it I wouldn't mind. I'm just hoping that a friend of a friend of a friend of a ..... will let the people involved know that their product is still used and appreciated this long after publication. Maybe once 4th is out they can do a RETURN TO SUNLESS CITADELL ..... ok maybe not.

I've run Sunless several times and am currently running two D&D Tutorial groups through it on the Gleemax PbP forum. I love it as well and really enjoyed the followup story elements sprinkled through the adventures that followed it (particularly Heart of Nightfang Spire and Bastion of Broken Souls).

When I played it the DM (on her second time through the module) turned Meepo into a manic-depresive, nocturnal, Bard. We would have done nearly anything to get rid of him, but he had us convinced he could handle the dragon for us. We had to stop the barbarian from lynching him at least twice.

The game was an absolute blast, i will add my kudo's to the creators as well.

I ran this module as well, and thorougly enjoyed it. I long for the day when Dire Rats, Kobolds, Goblins, and other "iconic" first-level encounters becomes less iconic, but as it was, it was by far one of the coolest first-level adventures I've seen.

My group actually put a leash on Meepo and used him as a guide. Later, they found him to be more useful as a run-and-gun skirmisher with a shortbow. If I were to continue the campaign, Meepo would have certainly become either a Sorcerer or (more likely) a Bard.

The Sunless citadel was my first 3rd edition D&D game. Was a player, not the DM, and really enjoyed it.

I seem to rememebr Meepo (and most of the rest of the kobolds) getting ripped to pieces by the troll.

I run it twice and I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand I love the beginning with the small town and the first level with the Kobolds, Goblins and the Secret Door Path.

But on the other hand I found the second level very boring and the endfight bothered me, but I forgot why :P

It bothers me because the two captured adventurers cannot be saved. I changed that and decided to treat them like vampire spawn -- if you kill them, you can then raise them.

But since that's beyond the reach of a 3rd level party or a small town merchant clan, I'm thinking if the PC's capture them alive and give them 1/4 or more of the healing apple, it will cure them. If the PC's sacrifice the apple to try it, I'm not going to say "no, doesn't work".

I always wished that they redid the original adventure path into a hardcover compilation with full color illustrations and more ties between the adventurers. It had it's ups and downs but could be run pretty solidly with little issue.
