Well, if you're using 3.5 or the FR method of giving out X.P., you'll catch up pretty quick.

Well that sucks since you were so close..
maybe you can get the Dm to give you a solo side trek or something, or at least cut you some slack on the xps... maybe be "right at the begging of 3rd" or something....
at least it is a smallish gap between 3rd-4th.

Waite until it happens at higher levels.

Of course all things are relative; and higher levels mean higher CR monsters meaning more xps so the advancement rate stays about the same I guess...
Just don't multi-class! It'll widen the gap between your relative levels.
And besides sooner or later somebody else will die too....hehehe!!

Well, right now we have a Rogue, Ranger, and Druid (who learned in last game that his main forte is summoning spells *sigh*).

So, we have enough meat, and I was hesitating between a Wizard, Sorcerer, or cheesy spiked-chain weilding Fighter.

I *think* I'll go with a Sorcerer, because our lack of arcane spells could eventually be our downfall... I'm such a team player, which is what got my Paladin killed in the first place...
