A couple of questions about sunrods.
Do they work underwater?
What type of action is it to 'light' one?

To be worth buying I would say yes. It's a glow rather than a flame.

What type of action is it to 'light' one?

They need to be "struck" according to the description.

I see them a bit like emergency flares, you remove a safety cap (probably leather) then bash the end on the floor or nearby surface. I'd call it a standard action.

...which can be combined with an attack action if you're hitting a monster with one (for 1 point of non-lethal damage or something).

For use in underwater areas or environments where open flames would be hazardous, such as coal mines, small rooms(oxygen supply), or methane filled caverns.

I would say they function underwater, but I'm not entirely sure you're able to activate it underwater. Striking anything with a significant amount of force is fairly difficult when one is fully submerged. Then again, the description doesn't state how hard you have to 'strike' it...

I agree with Bagpuss, it's more similar to other actions listed as standard actions than any other type of action.

Either way...just my 2 cp
