Super heroes RPG

While I am all in favor of the total and complete domination of the D20 system (okay not really) I don't feel like it makes for a good superhero system. I would have to agree with other posters if you haven't played Champions then you missing out on the best superhero system out there.

*scratches head* I can't for the life of me remember which superhero is my favorite... ;)

Hehe. Whats Beta-Ray up to these days. The last thing I read of him was the Star Masters mini.

As for my fave, I havent really got one fave. Theres a few I REALLY like. These would be Doc Strange, Quasar, & Thor. She-Hulk is up there too. At least as far as Marvel characters go.

Hehe.

I must admit I've really wondered whether d20 could handle the power levels that producing some of the comic characters named in this thread. And what changes to the rules would be needed for it to be fun for the players and feel like a comic book.

The d20 for superheros that I've been working on (god know if it will ever get done) addresses -ahem- focuses on the very powerful heros and villians unlike many other versions where pcs and npcs need to have a realitively low level of power t remain balanced.

Early on, I felt that d20 could handle the really high-end type of superhero - Superman, the Hulk, Thor, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, and Supreme being good examples of that ilk. Now, I'm thinking that it'd be hard for d20 to handle them without major revisions. I hope I'm wrong.

I do think that d20 can handle many of what I fondly refer to as the "second-string heroes." These are the heroes that have more, for lack of a better term, "down-to-earth" powers, if they have powers. Dr. Strange, Captain America, Spiderman, and Batman are good examples. It's not a disparagement of them, and many of my favorites are from their ranks. It's just that their powers/abilities are more easily modelled by d20.

Yeah. Another thing is that most Superheroes are front loaded. Sure they're powers might might increase in strength and a characters control over them will improve, but gaining a bunch of new powers over time isnt really the norm.
