Superman: Still Awesome

Is this the new one with the dog and all the other supers and Supergirl at the end? I thought it was better than it looked, but not better than the previous ones with Henry whatever- I cannot recall his last name.

The character is the same, but that's where the similarities end. They were different movies with different feel and tone. They shouldn't be compared. I enjoyed both immensely. I haven't watched Superman for a second time yet. Maybe I should soon.

I like Cavill a lot, and I think he made a great Superman, but i think Snyder's well documented distaste for "optimistic" superheroes really hurt those films.

I really liked Cavill's look and performance, and I think he is the best Superman actor I have seen. Unfortunately the scripts he was given were not the best. I don't think the Snyder films are trash like some do, but they could have been so much more. Such missed opportunities.

I just watched it again and it is still amazing. It is so unapologetically in-genre, embracing what makes comics and Supes so wonderful. I can't wait for Man of Tomorrow.

I was raised on Silver Age DC comics, and James Gunn nails this era 100% in everything he touches. Zack Snyder was all about Iron Age comics, which worked well for Watchmen, but not at all (IMO) for his DCEU movies. Cavill is a good actor and did the best with what he got, but what he got was awful.

Not that it’s much of a contest, but I think this film has the best live-action Luthor to date.

Superman: You’re driven by envy, Luthor, it couldn’t be more obvious!

Luthor: No sh*t, I’m not dim, I know envy consumes my every waking moment! When they mention Galileo in the same breath as me, I want to vomit! But at least Galileo did something, he wasn’t some dopey Venusian whose strength illuminates how WEAK we all are! My envy is a calling, Superman, since it will save humanity by driving me to annihilate you! 1A! 1A! ONE! A!
