Supporting a Keep/Fort

Ok, for a keep in a rather isolated area (yes, it is on a borderlands), what would be required to keep the men battle ready, support staff wise?

My guess is that when the keep is fully staffed, the military contingent will be about 180 men, including the officers. They will have about 50 horses with them – 40 mainly for riding patrols, with 10 light war horses.

What kind of staff would be required to support them – blacksmiths, armourers, leather workers, cooks, horse handlers, etc? My quick guess would be at least 30.

Is there a source out there that would tell me?

Thanks

There's some hireling information in the DMG, I can't remember the specifics off the top of my head, but I know it's in there... Also, the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook is also a good source for that sort of information, I think -- I'd have to check.

OK -- time for me to step into my role as booster for Joe and Suzi Browning's new book The Magical Medieval Society which will answer this question with stunning accuracy and specificity.

Thanks, I'll check out the book, which I think I have. Just did not occur to me when dreaming of a new adventure last week. God, it sucks getting old.

I am also hoping Fields O' Blood (coming out in July) will supply some accurate numbers on this as well, although it may not get that detailed.
