Couldn't bring myself to burn HotDQ, but in the time I took to type this someone else did. Sure it's a mess, but it's also the first 5e AP I played, and came after a 10 year break from D&D for me. The memories of playing around the table with my friends in a back yard in Pasadena are still with me almost 7 years later, and that's gotta count for something.

To its credit, it has a really cool elevator pitch. I think someone could probably make a really great adventure with the concept, the published book just... Isn’t that. Which I feel like is true of most 5e APs.
