Survivor All-Stars Premiere AND 2/05 SPOILERS

The whole fire starting issue with the tribes is a classic example of "group think" where no one is capable of thinking outside the box because they are so focused on the one single way and cannot come up with a different method.

Okay I just want to know. Did any of these people know they had tried out for survivor or was it a surprise. I mean I have never tried out and have more survival knowledge than they do. Heck justgaming has taught me more about survival, maybe not taugt as much as encouraged me to learn more. I mean If I decided to try out, Which I won't just way too fat, I would ..you know.. read a book about survival maybe pratice making fire or using primitive weapons etc. Scary to think my lard carcass has more experience throwing a spear, using ablow gun, tharowing an axe, making fire, reading a map and a million other basic survival skills than the dumbies that make it on the show.

I know a lot of the game is psychological but come on keeping yourself healthy is one way to stay in the game. they cull the sick and weak pretty fast.

I think that its going to be Ethan.
If Rupert and Rudy were smart, at this point they would get Ethan in an alliance and vote Jenna off. As for the other two tribes, I think you will likely see Alicia and Kathy being the most likely candidates for removal...

All-stars was decent so far. I like seeing Rupert back. I actually missed season 1 so seeing some of these folks is new to me. Richard is a hoot. I hate him already. :)

Both of the Robs are pure evil but I love to watch them work.

My only complaint is that with 18 members, not to mention 3 tribes is that the premiere should have been longer. It should have been at least a 90 minute show if not 2 hours. I know that for people on the East Coast (like me) it would have kept them up even later but it would have felt a little more complete.

I love this show and I'm loving the All-Stars. It's such a treat to see all those old familiar characters from the first 3 seasons and realize what a bland bunch the most recent casts have been (Rupert excepted). I'm very worried about Rudy -- by far my favorite survivor -- because lots of things are pointing towards him being sent home tomorrow night. I guess finishing 15th on the All-Star series (ahead of a past winner) isn't too bad for a 75-year-old man, but darnit, I wanted him to win!

Speaking of winners, I've really got my fingers crossed for Richard Hatch to go far. By all logic and sense he should be one of the first people gone (and he may yet be), but he seems to be doing his hardest to paint himself as a non-threat and stay outside of the alliance-building fray. He's making the best of a very bad situation (having the hugest of all possible bullseyes painted on his back) and may be able to make a go of it. If he makes it past his first tribal council I have a feeling he may go far.

For the other people, I'm still feeling them out. Lex and Rob M are both very crafty, but that craftiness actually cost them in their first seasons, so it'll be interesting to see if they've learned to be more subtle and circumspect. Rupert, as something of an unknown quantity (no built-in friends, but also no built-in enemies) has the potential to go very far. My nightmare scenario is that all of the interesting and dynamic people will get voted off early as threats, and we'll be left with nothing but the likes of Ethan, the two Jennas, and Amber. But even if that happens, I'm sure I'll still watch every week. If nothing more, Jeff Probst's barely-concealed disdain and contempt is always good for a laugh :D

If Saboga loses the next challenge, I think Rudy will get voted off. Two reasons:

1) Ethan strikes me as a guy who'll use a Prisoner's Dilemma approach to group dynamics, which means that after trying to deal straight with Rupert and Rudy and getting stabbed he'll turn on them for one round.

2) I expect Rudy will be the one suffering the most under the harsh conditions - the guy is 75, after all - so assuming Ethan goes with the girls Rudy's the logical one to kick. If Rupert is serious about running a "work hard, don't scheme" strategy, that'll also count in his favour - he'll be seen as a tribe asset who won't hold grudges and so can ally later.

Starting a fire from nothing is non-trivial. Doing so in a jungle during rainy season is considerably harder, at least I'd assume it is (I've never tried). It'll be interesting to see if Richard really can get a fire started.

Episode 2:

Ok, we finally got confirmation that Ethan is an idiot. Or maybe, wealth spoils you. How could he NOT approach Rupert and Rudy to vote off one of the girls?

Richard seemed surprised that Tina was booted first. Which proves that while he WAS the smartest on his island, and is smarter than the average viewer who hates him...he's still not as bright as others.

Too bad, Mogo Mogo didnt win the reward challenge, would have loved to see if Richard said "dont give them fire, I guarantee I can make fire later" or not and if the others wouldve believed him.

Chapera is looking STRONG. They should easily be able to finish 1st or 2nd as long as there are three tribes. I really wish the two Robs and Tom would make some sort of deal before the tribes are split into two. Although I wouldnt be surprised to see that happen at the beginning of next episode.

Won't be too much to talk about until someone new goes to tribal council and we can see more of how people think (or dont think)

I imagine once it became clear he wasn't on the chopping block, he figured getting rid of Rudy was fine so the group has a better shot at immunity challenges. If he had the pull to get rid of whoever he wanted, I think he'd try to take out Rupert since the two have similar provider/challenge monster roles, but his position isn't yet strong enough to do that. Might be he believes he can split the girls down the road (if memory serves, he dated one of them on the Survivor interview circuit).

Well, maybe. I imagine he was thinking in terms of challenges (i.e., the same reason Rudy got booted second). I'm sure that if and when Mogo Mogo loses, his appeal to the others is going to be "look, I'm no threat to win this game but I can help us win challenges, let's all vote off..." whoever screwed up that IC.

I think they'll split Saboga soon and drop to two tribes. Upcoming development:
One of the contestants got news of a personal tragedy early in the filming and dropped out, and that should air in the next couple of weeks.
After that, I think they'll drop to two tribes.
