The first picture is very atmospheric. It seems like the kind of art one would want to use in the Ravenloft setting (just my opinion). Has a creepy, haunted air to it. Is there a story to it or the characters in it?

From Left to right:

Tesla ( Slav Wizard/Rogue ), Korbender ( Dwarven fighter ), Jakk ( Suten Weaponmaster ), Ingressa ( Suten Cleric of Helga ), Thrax ( half ork ??? ).

Jakk:

It was a spring night, and it was pouring rain...Typical in spring. Jakk was a young man, full of ambition and spunk. He displayed exceptional skill as a teamster, and took well to it, since riding crossbow was too dull.
On that night, the wagon train left on schedule for Faule. 2 hours into the journey, just 10 miles from the midway stop at Uberfall, the last wagon through a wheel. The wagon tipped and spilled it's cargo into the flooded ditch alongside the road.

" Great " Jakk thought, and for the next few minutes he sat impatiently as the rest of the unit tried to tip the wagon upright. While the unit was working on the wagon...Master Sargent Klauss Rheinwald ( A Massive, and stern Hessian man. A fine leader and mentor to Jakk. ), 2nd lieutenants Freder, Fischer, 1st lieutenant Goreman, and the Captain seemed to be in a heated discussion near the ditch where the cargo spilled...With the downpour, visibility was poor and hearing any of the conversation was impossible...Curious and bored, Jakk watched as the Captain prevented Klauss from slipping into the ditch...It looked like he was alright, but it took the 2nd liutenants and the captain to keep him on his feet...

Then 9 Hells broke loose. The Mountain Ork war cries pierced through even the droning of the downpour. Arrows, bolts, and spears followed...Then the hatchets, and finally the mud caked orks...Dozens of the kaferz swarmed from all directions. Both 2nd lieutenants were struck down with hatchets, letting the master sargeant slip into the flooded ditch...He was visibly yelling for help, but could not be heard...The orks decended upon him moments later, hacking and spearing. The captain made it back to Jakk's wagon, a hatchet in the back, and several bolts in his left leg and right arm...losing conciousness once on the wagon...1st lieutenant Goreman was wounded badly as well, but made it to the third wagon...
As the orks hacked their way to the overturned wagon, and the rear guard did their best to hold them off, Jakk ordered the wagon train to move on...And move it did, dumping non essential cargo along the way...including the wounded that would not survive the next ten miles ( Jakk couldn't bring himself to dump the captain, and 1st lietenant Goreman was well enough to take shots at the kaferz as the wagons sped towards Uberfall ). Through the hail of arrows, and spears, Jakk drove his horses at full speed all the way to Uberfall...The horses collapsing and later dying soon after arriving.

The brutality and the cruelty was overwhelming. The sounds of the wounded begging not to be thrown off the wagons, the thud of their bodies on the muddy road, and the visions of Klauss silently screaming for help haunted the young Jakk. War wasn't glorious, or exciting. It was terrifying, and cruel. Heroes were people that were just better at surviving, and or just lucky. After being decorated, Company 12 disbanded, and Jakk was reasigned...Not as spunky, not as ambitious, and not as sober..

Thrax's Story

Thrax:

His recent return home tells alot...

" Ahk!! " The Ur Thark ( Ork Battlerager ) steps back, the others reach for weapons, but they are told to hold by a voice further along the road.
A shaman enters the scene...Karmak', the shaman that declared your blood upon birth...and chose your name...He doesn't seem to recognize you.

" Let these pass!! I will see there words and choose whether they see Tallik. "

As the shaman leads you two past the Ur Thark and the herders, and closer to the stronghold...

" So Thrax, what is so important that you risk death? You were thrown to the rocks, and told not to return. Well, you look well fed and smell fertile, this was a good time to return.
Your father is not as well fed as he once was...Tallik's other sons are weaklings, barely fit to guard women. He's found some powerful allies though, strange ones they are, asking about the Great One alot, and offering great treasures. They call themselves the Yan' Ki and somewhat smell of soft skulls, but are far more fearsome and evil.
According to our laws, you may issue a challenge for the throne now, but only in the spring may you engage in the Ur 'Kebbak ( Right of Removal ). If I am witness during the challenge, you may not be harmed until the Ur 'Kebbak.
You were always my favorite Thrax, that's why I gave you that name...It means Time of the Fallen Sky ( Ork version of the great cataclysm or apoccalypse ) in the old tongue of our people. I've talked enough...So how is your blood? ( you know what he means ), and who is your soft skull slave? ( refering to Tesla ) "

Thrax answers, "We are at the dawn of a new era." He gestures with the musket in his hand, "These weapons give power to the weak. With them, the lowly Severed Ears conquered several softskull cities. The Longtooths must have them to discourage any upstarts from throwing themselves on our spears. I wish my clan to be strong when I take control of it.

"I will challenge Tallik when you bring me to him. And I will do so with my own face", says Thrax. He then casts alter self and reverts back to his natural form. There is a flash of light as his illusionary travelling clothes disappear, and his mithral armor catches the sunlight. Karmak will have to look closely to notice the tiny irredescent scales that now make up Thrax's skin, but he has no difficulty seeing the obvious pigment change of it from olive green to brown. His facial features take on a more human-like appearance save for that unmistakeable Urt jawline. He says, "You were asking about my blood?" And then he gives a hearty, yet respectful laugh.

Thrax then looks over to Tesla, Hamlin, and Nachos. He says, "That man is no mere softskull. I would not allow him to appear like an Ork if he was not worthy. We travelled deep below the surface to a subterranean city called The Crossroads.
He, Tesla, was slain. He was raised using the blood and soul of an ork. I believe he was deserving of that gift. He holds very important knowledge."

" Wise boy. With this, we can remain here until the Urt returns and takes us
to the land beyond the Western Sea...One more set of doors and we'll be in
Tallik's court. "

The shiny black metal doors, huge doors, at least 10 orks tall, swing open.
Beyond is a court occupied by dozens of the Longtooth vassals and servants.
Tallik sits upon a throne of ivory ( mountain elephant tusks ), at his side
are four strange looking creatures in some kind of bluish spintmail. The
creatures greyish skin is stretched over their bodies, almost revealing the
bones beneath. They carry silvery swords inlaid with brilliant gems, and
appear to be discussing something with Tallik as you enter. There is a
clamour as you approach the throne, Tallik stands and raises his great axe,
which glows a dull red...The strange visitors calmly step to the side and
watch.

" Bastard son, outcast spawn!! You have come to meet your death!!? "
Tallik yells.

" Hold fast my lord, being the eldest of your first mate, he has right to
challenge you, and he has come just for that. Thrax will declare the Ur
'Kebbak and I am witness, as is this court!!! "

Karmak spits twice upon the floor and stomps his left foot...the rest of
the court stomps as well...Tallik lowers his great axe and icily stares at
Thrax...Tallik's sons step forth and lay their weapons at Thrax's feet ( A
sign of their acceptance of the challenge ).

To Tallik, Thrax replies, "In your drive to extend your reign you have spawned nothing but bastards! Just because you wish to have no heir does not mean one will not rise to slay you. I am here for my slain brothers who were either too weak or not wise enough to defeat you. I challenge you to the Ur Kebbak. There, death will find one of us."
