SW saga edition overview at WotC

I dutifully purchased every single d20 SW book that WotC produced since the line began. Are those books now going to be unsable--as far as game mechanics go--under the new ruleset?

Back in the RCR days I had the Jedi Commander PrC pitched at one point. JD Wiker looked at it and said "You aren't thinking of this for 'General' Kenobi, are you?"

"No," said I, "Lord Hoth."

Luckily, such classes are simply unneeded in Saga. The PrCs we do include all have a fairly broad purpose.

As I understand it, you probably could use stat blocks from the RCR and your players most likely wouldn't notice... that's what I got out of the Q&A session and the various information and Q&A threads on the Wizards boards and SWRPGNetwork.

Some game mechanics are going to change or need to be changed, particularily when it comes to the Force feats. That was the other thing I deduced from the information available.

Alien species may need a little tweaking, but that seems to be minor at best, since it looks like the character basics aren't changing much, if at all.

Most of the rest of the information in the various books are flavor or game advice, and all of that is 'systemless'.

I can see the Jedi master picking up some Consular-role stuff, which is handy because ATOC kind of blew the idea of a Consular class out of the water the moment Yoda took his saber out.

So far the only change that I find anoying is the use of miniatures. Notice they say nothing about not requiring them. Ovbiously we can use chits or pennies or whatever but it's painfully obvious WotC really, REALLY wants us to buy miniatures. And not only in PC combat but also starship combat! Miniatures are friken expensive! A SW Straship Battles starter and a couple of boosters cost me $80! And the contents are :):):):)ing random!

Sorry, miniatures just bug the living :):):):) out of me.

I've got a box of paperclips. You can bend them into unique shapes that either look like the actual vessel or are easy to recognize as being character X and not character S.

Dude, if you don't want to buy the minis, then don't buy the minis. Use your Care Bears collection.

WotC really want you to buy because they make their wares to be sold in order to stay in business. If they're not worth selling, then why waste the resource to make them?

I may not buy character minis, but I'm a sucka for vehicle and ship minis. It's my nature, as an old-school wargamer (brought up on Star Fleet Battles and BattleTech/AeroTech).
