WotC's bitch
... its ability to generate quotes. I'm sure everybody + dog on these forums can mouth off a plethora of lines from the original Star Wars trilogy, at the drop of a hat. Here's a few:

SW ANH:
"Mos Eisley spaceport. You will not find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
"Remember, a Jedi can feel the force flowing through him."
"I have a bad feeling about this."
"Don't be so proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"Obi-Wan, we meet again at last. The circle is complete. When I left you, I was the learner. Now, I am the master."
"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."
"Use the Force, Luke" [bleh]
"May the Force be with you." [more bleh]

ESB:
"I cannot teach him. The boy has no patience."
"Apology accepted, Admiral Needa."
"I am altering the deal. Pray I do not alter it further."
"This deal is getting worse all the time."
"No Luke, I am your father." [even more bleh :) ]

ROTJ:
"You want this... don't you?"
"Take your Jedi weapon. Strike me down. I am unarmed."
"You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
"So be it... Jedi."

... and lots of others. What comparable lines have Eps 1 and 2 generated so far? The only ones I can think of from Ep 1 (haven't seen Ep 2 yet) are

"Soon we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. Soon, we will have our revenge." [Darthie Maul, da man]
"We'll take the long way." [Amidala]

"Wipe them out ... all of them" (one of my favs from Ep1).

Also the reason the 1st three are more quotable is becuase we KNOW the movies so well. Many of us could recite the three movies near completely. Ep1 is still too young and Ep2 is WAY to young to be able to do this. Wait 10-15 years... they will be just a quotable, trust me.

I think you really need to be a fan to think of starwars when you hear these. Though if you fill in the ... a non fan might get the hint.

I believe they are all pre-starwars.

Well, the lines themselves are made up of ordinary English words, so I guess if you remove all identifying traces to the movie, they'll sound fairly ordinary. "Apology accepted", for instance, is clearly a completely generic phrase. However, I think that even someone who isn't a dedicated Star Wars fan will recognise the complete line, "Apology accepted, Admiral Needa". That's the point.

One of my faves too. I think it's also in Ep.VI

Yep. However, I think it'll be the younger generation who will be able to quote these movies by heart.

The rest of us are too old, and won't watch the new trilogy the requisite 30+ times each.

Because that's why we know the original 3 so well, right? Familiarity.

And Hong...

"You want this... don't you?"

This was in "Deep Anal Sluts II", IIRC.

If they do, that is. I think the jury is still out on whether they will, any more than for any other big-budget extravaganza. Like, say, Independence Day, or one of the six million identical Star Trek movies.

And even if they do, the jury's still out on whether Eps 1-3 will penetrate as deeply into the cultural subconscious as did Eps 4-6. Yes, there's no denying that Eps 4-6 achieved that; that's why George Lucas is even going to the trouble of making Eps 1-3. It's also why he can afford to spend the equivalent of a Third World nation's GDP on each one of them.

And speaking of which, I am subconsciously penetrating George Lucas RIGHT NOW, etc, etc, etc.

Post proof or retract, L0Z3r!11!!!!

I did recognize them as english words.

Removing the recognizable traces was a way to point out how ordinary they are as oneliners (quotes).

I'm saying that even though I like starwars these quotes does not make me think of starwars (Can't remember what Vader did with Admiral Needa... Choked him? Or even that there was an admiral named that. So many movies have had admirales in them).... I don't think the sentences I mentioned above with recognizable traces will give people an idea of what they are refering to other than starwars (Jedi, Lightsabre etc. Many do recognize these words). That's my point.

'For gods sake' I'm not trying to start a fight just stating my point of view.

(As far as being a fan... Well. I have seen the old 3 movies about 3 times (last time one year ago) and the new one once. So maybe I'm just not fanatik enough:))
