SW -- Why the droids don't remember

And Vader?

Droids flee to Tatooine? He knows his brother lives there/lived there. His mother died there. He killed his first village there. No recognition? No hunch?

I would love a new edition of EP IV where C3PO says to Luke, "Skywalker? Gee, my constructer was also a Skywalker, and he lived on tghis very planet. Matter of fact, I worked here until he fetched me after his mother died. She is buried over there, by the way. Do you know Anakin Skywalker? Did you know he's Darth Vader?"

I sent an Email to your omokage at omgage.com addy a couple of days ago and really need a response. I didn't get a bounce on it and didn't receive a reply (of which I am aware). If I am mistaken, my apologies in advance and sorry to "hunt" you down in this fashion, Travis. :)

Omokage and bwgwl clearly have the designation issue down. Those names are not nearly long enough to be individual names-those are model names. If the heroes drove to Cloud City in an old Plymouth Satellite, Vader wouldn't be thinking, "Hey-I rebuilt a Satellite in my high school auto shop! I wonder if this is the same one?"

As far as the Obi-Wan question is concerned, that whole Tatooine scene is very revealing in retrospect. Think about it-he's been hiding on this backwater planet for, what, forty years? Suddenly, he decides to take off on a new adventure. And why? Because the Force is telling him-practically screaming at him, really-that it's time. One day, he's wandering the desert, minding his own business, when Anakin's droids show up with Anakin's son chasing them (after they ran away from their new owner, Anakin's step-brother), bringing a message to him from Anakin's daughter, who ran into them after her ship was shot up by Anakin near Anakin's home planet. "Gee, what a remarkable coincidence!" thinks Obi-Wan. Yeah, right. Everything he says and does from that point on is calculated to make sure Luke ends up training with Yoda for his ultimate confrontation with Vader.

Of course Obi-wan recoginzed the two droids but telling luke the truth would have opened up a host of questions he didn't want to answer.

As to having the memories wiped I think they had them selectively wiped out to protect the children. And I think Padme takes them with her when she goes to Alderan with Bail Organa and Baby Leia and they are left behind with Leia and are Leia's Droids. For security reason's to protect Leia they are programmed to believe they belong to captain Antilles who is a loyal servent of the Organa family.
