To be clear,
SW5e s still going strong at
SW5e.com Discussion on
SW5e reddit and on
SW5e's discord continues unabated and with new material and adventures being turned out weekly.
Perhaps most importantly, development on SW5e for Foundry VTT also continues and is at a robust level of community support. SW5e for Foundry is on its own
SW5e for FVTT discord server, not on the Foundry VTT discord server.
SW5e for ver 10 of FVTT has been released since 2022 and is working very well. A new version of T
oken Action HUD for SW5e has been released which provides complete functionality to TAH in SW5e, and similar additions have been made for
other critical modules in FVTT ver 10. Work on V11 version of SW5e will be released later this summer.
Because SW5e IS heavily based on 5e, almost all modules released for 5e for FVTT work with SW5e. This includes MidiQOL and Dynamic Active Effects (DAE). This is a BIG DEAL as that means that the tools exist within FVTT to automate combat in SW5e, complete with animations and sound effects (see below).
Other significant support on Foundry VTT includes
Callen's Autorec and
Star Wars Snd FX for SW5e. This installs along side
JB2A's Patreon animations and
Automated Animations to provide an easy to use and configure one stop solution to animated attacks and sound FX while playing the game in FVTT. It installs lickety split without issue. Blasters go pew-pew, and lightsabers hum and swoosh like you would expect them to do.
tl;dr: There are over 200+ RPG systems for Foundry VTT. The best supported of those systems is 5e and Pathfinder 2nd Ed, no question. The next best supported? The entirely unlicensed and wholly fan written SW5e is probably 3rd. Yes, in my opinion, the degree of support for SW5e on FVTT is better than
Warhammer FRP, Savage Worlds, Pathfinder 1, or
Starfinder. That is pretty impressive for an unlicensed, under the radar, fan hack of an existing RPG system.
And above all? It plays REALLY WELL. It
feels like Star Wars in a way that prior licensed versions of an RPG set in the Star Wars milieu never really did. The fans got it right with SW5e.
If you are looking for something to play?
The Dawn of Defiance Adv Path, originally released by WotC for Star Wars: SAGA Edition has been totally overhauled and re-released for SW5e, too. It has also been
recently updated for further refinements in terms of treasure rewards, per level, and
the maps have been overhauled, too. The result is a complete campaign for SW5e that installs in Foundry, level 1-17 --
and is ready for play.
