Swallow Whole & Sneak Attack

The T-Rex is immobilized with respect to the Rogue, and therefore Uncanny Dodge does not apply. That would be my ruling.
Actually, IIRC, they count as sort of grappling, at least the guy inside is being grappled.
The swallowed creature has full concealment to the swallower, because it normally can't see through itself. Therefore, losing its Dex bonus if any. Uncanny Dodge negates losing Dex bonus from not being able to see. Barbarian T-Rex = still bad news.

My rogue took the draconic template (DV & claws) specifically so he'd be able to SA his way out of Whole Swallowings. Unfortunately, the DM ruled it out. *le sigh*

I made that argument before, but the DM overruled it. :\ Guess he never saw any of the movies where the hero gets swallowed and blasts his way out.

Funny thing though, if the swallowing creature has uncanny dodge, the swallowed sneak attacker can't sneak attack him. Beware the barbarian T-Rex. :uhoh:

The Barbarian T-Rex is neat but I ran Far Realms 1/2 Dragon T-Rexs not too long ago. Invisibility and Swallow.... Make it a rogue also...... oh the horror...

Not very realistic either.
Nor very advantageous to have evolved such a stomach as well.
Eating things that are still able to claw their way back out seems kind of like asking for a Darwin Award. ;)

Never having to have read the swallow whole rules before, reading them now made me wonder what kind of grapple check you'd have to make to come out the other end?

WHAT??

It avoids the bite damage and the chance of being immediately swallowed again. . . plus it makes for a great story! ;)

Here is another take on this.. I'll quote the pertinent info in Swallow Whole I want to focus on.

The Armor Class of the interior of a creature that swallows whole is normally 10 + ½ its natural armor bonus, with no modifiers for size or Dexterity.

Sneak Attack
The rogue’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target.

Now technically, the Rogue's target is no longer "the creature" but "the interior of a creature".

When you calculate the AC of "the interior of a creature" you add 10 +1/2 it's natural armor bonus, and you do not apply modifiers for size or Dex. My arguement would be that, the target is not being denied a Dex bonus to AC because in this case, it is never factored into the equation. How can you be denied something you can't apply to begin with?

Just another way to possibly look at it...

The rogue is not meeting the conditions for sneak attack by virtue of the stomach area not having a dex bonus, he is getting it by having total concealment from the creature which presumably does not have X-ray vision, using that to Hide, and is effectively invisible, per the combat section on concealment, and the skills section on Hide.

If FAQ says swallowed creature is counted as flat footed, shouldn't you get +2 to hit it?

I'd still say that its quite stupid that you can SA. You are inside a monsters digestive system, that should be designed to handle alive targets if monster can and will swallow whole. Also even as stomach/way there is a major organ it's same organ all the way. Fighter could swing same wall also. And you cant pinpoint any special, more vulnerable location (You can't sneak attack if you dont know anatomy), as you shouldnt be able to say which way is front/back.

For balance issues SA is ok though, rogue is not going to get out without it...

Okay, here is a problem, Giant Purple worm grabs and grapples you, it has done some damage, most creatures would be dead by the time the PC or hero is swallowed, the nature of a hero is where sometimes the rules logic will fall short. You are able to do something most creatures wouldn't be able to because of the way the HP system works, you have survived being swallowed, you have the chance to cut your way out. The anatomy of a purple worm isn't the question when you are attacking from the outside since you probably can't decern vital organs. But since you are inside, the stomach is a vital organ since as modern man we know that any animal that has a perferated stomach will probably die from wounds. That means that this is an organ from what we know. Therefore, if the thief can see, since it has no dex, Sneak attack applies then.

Rogues have enough weaknesses without stripping this one from them. The sage allows it, so I'm good with it.
