Swallow whole weirdness

I'm positive there was a "RotG" article or some-such about the swallow whole problem...but I can't find it with a cursory check. Any one got more patience than I today? :)

So, I guess that means whenever you play and a summon monster eats someone or even takes a bite of someone and then disappears, you describe the mess of fluids and blood and digested material that is lying around on the ground afterwards?

Yup.

Seems a bit out of theme to me, as that blood on the the monster's teeth should now be considered part of the monster. But that's just me.

Depends on your chosen theme, I guess.

I'm going to have to say that things travel with the creature, for two reasons:

Firstly, because that means anything in the stomach of a summoned creature drops. Non-PC food, even. But I'd say air falls in the same category. Which means the monster can end up with lungs all the way open, but with nothing inside, and then air rushes in, killing the monster. This just doesn't make sense - there has to be a line in what is part of the creature and what isn't, and I'd say anything in the creature is part of it. Sure, feel free to disagree, but I say the creature contains anything inside itself.

And secondly, because donning your acid-resistance items and spells and hitching a ride to the lower planes in a fiend's belly is a plot hook too hilarious and unique to pass up.

Summoned critters would leave all bits and snits behind when they leave. yes it is messy.

Changing shape to a smaller size with something alive inside you is a quick way to die or be rendered a helpless skinsack when i run a game.

If a size increasing effect ENDS with a large object inside you, there is no magic to shrink the object and death is assured.

So you're a fan of the shrink-item boulder assasination technique?
