Cedric's got it all wrapped up. I got a set of nice swords (katana set of 3) from ebay for a great deal. Once I got them, I knew what to do to make them that much better by making minor repairs to the sheaths, cleaning the blades up and touching up the details so they no longer look used. Overall I wouldn't buy anything expensive on the net as it may just be kinda crappy once you get it. I go for the cheaper stuff so my expectations are low and I can be surprised by the quality later. IMO, if you want a really good item it's worth your while to go see it in person first.
