Tablet RPG classics

Hi guys!

I'm just curious, does anyone know what it would take to port classic games such as Bauldor's Gate or Icewind Dale to a tablet? Specifically the iPad? (considering that it's the most stable tablet ATM and its the one where most of the customers are used to buy stuff) not necceseraly from programming point but from legal one?

And a follow up, how much would you be willing to pay for one? From 0.99$-19.99$

And btw GOG got a sell for a couple of days of B1G1 for free for D&D classics

It'd take a program called GemRB.

start [GemRB wiki]

It's a free, open-source implementation of the Infinity Engine. To the best of my knowledge, it runs Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. There are versions for most of the common platforms - PC, OSX, Linux, iOS, and Android. I have it installed on my Xoom tablet but haven't done much with it yet, just made sure that the BG2 demo it comes with runs right. It ran without a hitch for me, though I'm going to install mods to clean up the interface so it's more usable - the game wasn't designed for a touch screen or high resolutions like I have on my tablet.

You have to have a copy of the game to pull the data from your computer to the new location - I'm going to use ES File Explorer to move the data over Wifi to the proper locations on the tablet, which is all laid out in the wiki linked above.

You can even install mods on the games before you move them over to your device. It's my intent to go through BG and Torment with all the most recommended mods installed for the best experience possible.

That's interesting but like many other folks I don't have the patience or the skills to do somthing like this and I'm more interested in the legal points of porting the games officially to other platforms.

I recently started playing a bunch of old school quests on the iPad and it seems that they are popular so I'm trying to find out what's the obstacle of bringing those games to mobile devices, not how to actually do it :)
