Tactics for dealing with Blasphemy/Word of Chaos

Well I guess you should consult your DM whether beeing deaf makes you immune to Blasphemy, since the rules are quite unclear it should be him who puts them right ;)

You could, I dunno, change your alignment to Evil.

I was going to suggest the Bardic countersong, but as pointed out earlier, it would not work. Lowering the creature's caster level might be the only weay, but are demons and devils etc immune to level drain effects?

You could be a Horizon Walker with Aligned Planar Mastery. "Spells and abilities that harm those of the opposite alignment don't affect you." Of course that requires 6 levels in a PrC, so maybe it's not a very useful option in the short term. ;)

I think the right solution is for the DM to recognize that blasphemy is a game breaker as written, and weaken it slightly. In my games, all the 7th-level alignment word spells allow a save for everything except the death effect. (The exception is mainly to save on dice rolling. If you're ten levels below the caster, you were going to die anyway.)

Usually they aren't. But you must attack the demon with Enervation, Energy Drain of similar attacks before it uses Blasphemy. Also, you have to overcome it's SR (Usually, not so difficult if you can cast Assay Spell Resistance).

Well, unless you're dealing with a half-fiend critter with 21+ HD... i.e. something that would be a cakewalk - if it couldn't auto-kill you with Blasphemy.
Ah, right. I'd forgotten about that ridicuous bug in the half-fiend template. As written, it's a recipe for epic-CL spellcasting at CRs in the low teens, which is not a sane way to make a balanced encounter.

IMC, the half-fiend SLAs get the same caster level as the base creature's most powerful existing SLA. If there are none, I fudge it and make its CL the same as its CR. This house rule meshes with my blasphemy one to make half-fiends a lot less broken.

Sounds like a reasonable houserule.
Since I'm increasingly houseruling stuff for advanced, templated, and/or classed monsters this might just be something I'm going to try.
