Take the HackMaster Challenge

Just got mine today...

It's certainly... over the top. Delightfully so. Some of the first things I saw were the voluminous encounter tables, the critical hits rules which I haven't read but which include 5 full-page anatomical illustrations, the math for calculating the party alignment, and the alignment tracking circle...

I really find myself wondering... Is this for real? I mean, obviously, yeah, it is... But do people really play with all these rules? They seem like they should work on paper, but it also seems like they were written just so you could say to a friend "Dude, check out this critical hits section!" and show him the skeletons, musculatures and organs.

On a totally different note... I'm a fiend for tables, so every time I flip open to a random table and find a d100, d1000 and d10000 table my eyes have to pop out in joy... So thanks for that!

I'm strongly considering picking up the player's guide now if I can scrounge up the money... And before reading this book I had no interest in HackMaster whatsoever... So, uh, I guess what I'm saying is that the HackMaster challenge worked beautifully.

Got mine yesterday. I have only had a chance to skim it.

Looks like for me it will be a fun read, but not something I would ever run. These days, I prefer more simple systems. But I would play, especially with an elite GM that knew the rules well.
