"Taking 10" on a craft skill?

I think the others have pretty much summed up using take 10 and 20 for skill craft checks. You wouldn't be able to take 20 on a profession check since the check is made once a week and reflects your income for that periiod of time, taking 20 usuall translates into taking 20 times as long so for a single week's worth of income you would be taking 20 weeks in order to accomplish this. You also cannot retry a profession check while you can retry a craft check, so the premise of taking 20 doesn't translate very well - pretty much you ar making 2o different attempts and using a law of averages to get a 20 once during those rolls.

My GM allows us to take 20 on craft checks... If we pay 20 times the raw materials cost.

20 times might be excessive I would say 2 or 3 times at most

Also I would allow taking 20 on any circumstance on a craft roll since as shown above the time penalty is very important. That would allow any skilled artisan to build anything provided he has enough time, which make sense, I would assume that all this extra time includes experimentation, asking expert around for some thecnique, which cost more money.

And I will usually force that character to take 1or 2 rank in that skill at the next level. He was focussing on it so much for a very long time that it improves and he didn't had time to focus on developing other skills.
