Taking damage while Spider Climbing

One question I have is.. it gives you a climb speed, which is like having a walking speed.

Do you have to make checks to move while getting hit normally?

For the duration of the spell climbing is a normal form of movement and it seems to me that if he was only moving to escape it wouldn't be so. If he was doing something else that required concentration then yes the checks would seem to apply.

I might be wrong

I'm beginning to think you do. From the Spider Climb description:

furthermore, it need not make Climb checks to traverse a vertical or horizontal surface (even upside down).

It says nothing about "need not make Climb checks to continue climbing when damaged."

I personally think the intention was probably "they're like Spiderman, with sticky hands and all that. They're not climbing with handholds, they're climbing with magic sticky stuff on their fingers." Which makes me want to house-rule it so no checks are needed.

At any rate, by the RAW, it's almost a moot point. There's such a slim chance of failure (with the +8 and ability to take 10), it may as well be automatic.
