Talent trees - any actual confirmation?

I've seen a lot of people refer to talent trees as something that will definitely be in 4E, but none of the developer comments I've read so far have even mentioned the word "talent." Have I missed something?

I have been wondering about that too. Wish I'd thought of starting a thread about it! :o

glass.

It's a Star Wars Saga concept, many class abilities aren't individual feats anymore but they are grouped in trees. Its allow, for exemple, to build "guardian" Jedi and "sage" Jedi from the same class.

It has been said that 4e will take many things of Saga, and for the sound of preview about class and differences between members of a class, it sounds a lot like Talent Trees.

Hopefully somebody not at work (as myself right now :( ) will give you more details.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I know what talent trees are (I'm running Saga right now, as a matter of fact.) I'm just wondering if we have any actual confirmation that they'll be used in 4E.

Oops, I think it was myself who didn't understand correctly your question.

No, I think no developer has said "it's going to use talent trees", but people has inferred it from the articles and comments.

It's either Talent Trees or something very similar, IMHO.

You mean talent trees similar to what exists in say Diablo II or WoW???

They might be called something different like "Ability Trees" or something, but I would certainly expect the concept to be there.

There is little to distinguish Talent Trees and Feat Chains with the appropriate prerequisites, IMO. Why not just make feat chains that might interact differently with a few base classes, each of which can qualify for them?

For example, there could be a feat chain which leads up to Hide in Plain Sight, which would have different implications for the Rogue (whose stealth could be urban-based) and the Ranger (whose stealth could be wilderness-based).

There could be a (primarily) Fighter feat chain with Weapon Specialization leading into the specialized maneuvers of specific weapons.
