Tales of Eberron: Aalic's Quest Part 1: A Crash and a Long Hike

[Starman]

You grab your gear and follow Nuranal. He whispers as you walk quickly toward the middle of the camp. "I just noticed her as I was making my rounds. I don't know her name. As soon as I realized what had happened to her, I went to wake you. Ogre's eyes! Who would do this?"

Nuranal guides you to the body. Another person is standing there with a torch, presumably the other person on watch. You have never been introduced to him. He nods at you and Nuranal when you walk up. The troubled sailor says he will go find Burghis and hurries off.

The woman is laying face up on the ground. She looks to be in her early twenties. Her hair is a light brown as are her eyes. Her arms and legs are stretched out. Her dress has been shoved up around her waist and she is naked beneath it. A dark pool has gathered under her head and you see the large slice in her throat running from ear to ear. Perhaps the most disturbing part of the whole scene, though, is the serene smile on the woman's face.

You examine the ground around her for tracks. [Survival roll= 11+6= 17] Unfortunately, between the poor lighting and the numerous tracks you are not able to pick out one set that could be the killer.

About ten minutes later, Nuranal come back with Burghis. He looks very tired and disheveled. When he sees the woman, he turns around and retches up the contents of his stomach.

 

[Widowmaker]

"Nuranal go find a blanket, shovel, and get me Phira." Aalic will state to the guard.

Once Nuranal is gone, Aalic will talk to Burghis. "We need to keep this quiet, once the others are ready to go you will lead them. I will catch up with you later."

Aalic will try and examine the body for clues or anything else that might have been left behind.

 

[Starman]

Nuranal nods and runs off. Burghis gives you a questioning look. "What are you planning?"

[Search roll= ?]As you examine the body, you notice a mark of some sort on the woman's breast. You pull back her shirt. The mark has been recently carved into her body. It is a V crossed by two horizontal lines. It looks very familiar to you. It takes you a moment to recall where you have seen it, but it come to you. A day or two before you left Sharn there was a story in the Inquisitive about a series of murders. The victims were all women and they all had this mark carved somewhere on their body.

You hear movement and Nuranal is coming back with a yawning Phira.
