Talk about your Eberron character concepts

Seconded. Dear god, JPL, if I were a woman I'd bear your children just for that.

Well...now I got that going for me. Thank you.

Derelictjay, I think it would work great with an airship, but it would carry over to a more conventional adventuring party, too --- one that gets hired to do all sorts of unsavory deeds.

"Firefly" is just a textbook example of how to set up an adventuring party. Everyone has adventure hooks built in, plenty of diversity among their backgrounds and alignments, a wide range of relationships among the group, a "Chosen One" type [River] to drive the overarching plot, recurring NPCs...study that show, DMs, cause that's how it's done.

And they get into tavern brawls.

And every episode, one character does something cool or funny or badass...

My mother always told me “It’s none of your business, don’t get involved!”, but she was just so beautiful and she was hurt. I had never seen any like her, she has to be a Kalashtar! As I took care of her wounds, I also studied her form so I could shift into it for later. When she awoke she confirmed she was of that near legendary race.

I kept her safe for a couple weeks, gave her food and helped her heal and she told me tales from her homeland. Stories of people moving things with their minds, no magic! Just think it and do it! She gave me a crystal called a Third Eye. When she placed on my forehead, my senses were sharpened, I was aware of all around me. It made it easier for me to come and go unnoticed.

One night when she was telling me of these warriors that can just create a sword when they need it and I said that was what I would like to do. She looked at me for a few moments and told me to come to her. I could feel her touch my face and my mind at the same time and she told me to call my soul knife.

At first I was confused, but then I could feel it! A blade within my very soul! And with a thought it was in my hand! By the end of the week I could summon it at will. She only asked one thing from me for her teachings, Never take her form! She said I would be in danger if I did. I promised her in my true form by my true name and as any changeling will tell you, there is no more binding oath!

The next day, she was gone..... She left me her satchel (it holds a lot of stuff!), several false ID papers (very useful for a changeling), a very sharp crystal blade (Riedran crysteel short sword) and this strange crystal ring, it is carved from a singe gem that I think is a Dragonshard!

I will protect this for you my friend.

I'm planning to play a warforged paladin (paladinbot reference fully intended) when my friend starts his Eberron campaign. The Wisdom and Charisma penalty will be painful, but the RP potential is too great to ignore. The basic personality concept is Optimus Prime (Autobot leader) meets Dorfl (Pratchett's golem watchman) meets Andrew Martin (Asimov's Bicentennial Man).

I really hope I can get a copy of the book soon so I flesh out my concept more fully. However, the basic idea is as follows: he was one of the last to be created by House Cannith and was given his freedom (shoved out the door and left to fend for himself) as a result of the Treaty of Thronehold. He quickly runs afoul of a mob of humans who try to destroy him because (a) they hate warforged as they killed their friends and family during the war; (b) they fear him and consider him to be some kind of dangerous monster; (c) they think his adamantine laced-plating is valuable and they want to break him apart and sell it; or (d) any combination of the above.

Fortunately, he is resuced by a passing cleric of the Silver Flame, taken in by the church and trained to be a paladin. Having seen what evil can make people do, he has sworn to oppose it in all its forms, and is particularly sensitive to selfishness, prejudice and hatred.

I really like that idea. Heck, I'd just like to play a Dorfl style warforged. Dorfl was great. Whenev I think of the scenes in the slaughterhouse, I laugh. But to really play Dorfl, there'd have to be some awful/offel jokes. :)

Vanguard 12, warforged fighter/juggernaut.

Former member of a special strike unit (he doesn't remember for whom), he remembers bits and pieces of the war, enough to make him figure he spent about 15 years in service. He doesn't know where he was when the war was over, and his memories are blank for about a year either way.

He was found in the ruins of some wide spot in the road in southern Aundair, having been left for dead under three tons of granite. In an ill-considered deed of good samaritanship, a salvage crew repaired him. Unfortunately, Vanguard 12 thought he was still in his last fight and slaughtered them to a gnome. Once he realized what he'd done, he ran, eventually stopping in Sharn when he decided he had to do *something* to make things a bit right. Now he unleashes his killing power only on those who truly, truly deserve it.

As a GM, I want to fiddle with the Skyships a little make them slower cargo ship, and make smaller, two men fighting craft. Now that's sky piracy!

As a player, I want to take the challenge of a simple Warforged fighter and make him have more personality (yet not be obnoxious) than people playing more "human" characters. I am tempted to make him look pretty beat up, where normal spell can't heal him, and he can't remember anything before he was pulled out of junk pile.

As he gains levels, more of his body "repairs" and he gets flashes of his life in the Last War. When he finally sees the Mournlands, he collapses on his knees and says, "They did it! Those fools finally did it! You had to blow it up, didn't you!!!!" ... sorry about that. :)

I generally enjoy pulp settings, so I have a whole slew of PC ideas.
