Talk about your Eberron character concepts

Inspired by this thread, some doodles of warforged concepts I'm working on. Two monks, a master inquisitive and a random bulked-up head:

Ah yes, Hajime Sorayama's cool robobabes. If you know who I'm talking about, everyone else better be mature (over 18) when they look him up.

War . . . it's an ugly business.

There are kids alive today who have no memory of the Last War, no real memory at any rate. Sure, they might know an uncle, or a cousin, or a town hero who served in the war, but they've never seen it up close. Never smelled it on their doorsteps. Never tasted it in the morning.

Funny thing is, some of these kids are older than me. They don't know the realities of the War, but I do. I've seen the things people can do to each other. I've seen the atrocities and the acts of courage. And I've seen what war can do to a man, how it can corrode his soul. Not many people could survive what I've seen.

Then again, I'm a Warforged.

Boghum Freehart:
Warforged Inquisitive

Boghum was "born" five years before the end of the war. Attached to an elite Brelish Recon Unit, he saw a lot of combat and avoided a lot more. During the war, he did his level best to keep the War from noncombatants whereever he was assigned. When he finished his military duties, he spent time as a volunteer helping Cyran refugees. Eventually, the horror became too difficult to deal with, and he moved to Sharn and went into business for himself.

He's turned his training to good use and now earns a living investigating crimes and other mysteries for whoever can pay him. Underneath his tough, grizzled, and uncaring exterior, however, Boghum still has a strong desire to help those in need. "Hate to see a woman or child cry," he'll say, "I'll take your case, pro bono, even though it's against my better judgment."

Boghum Freeheart
Male Personality Warforged Rog 3/ Master Inquisitive 3
Stats: Emphasis Int., Wis., Dex
Feats: Mithril Body, Inquisitive, Mithril Fluidity
Skills: Gather Information, Search, Sense Motive, Listen, Spot, Heal (all maxed); Hide, Move Silently (maxed from Rogue).

Ah yes,...am bad with names, but one Google search later and I'm on the same train as you. Now, that's one Warforged idea that might cause me to want to recreate that Futurama episode featuring Lucy Liu and Kidnappster. :)

Some pencil drawings of a Warforged Master Inquisitive and Shifter Monk based on the doodles I posted earlier:

That would be a more literal adaptation, true.

But in Firefly, River is hunted because she is apparently the only psi around. In Eberron, just psi power alone isn't enough to make her a target.

But the return of the thirteenth mark? That's big news.

Dark Psion's idea is cool, too.

Could make her an Elan from XPH: an attempt by the Quori to create a "best merging" between a Quori spirit and a human host, something halfway between the Empty Vessels of the Inspired, and the fragmented inherited spirit of the Kalashtar. They wind up with a near-immortal, permanant fusion of host and Quori... which merges personalities, rather than the host being subsumed. Deemed a failure, she is to be destroyed... but somehow managed to escape instead.

The Inspired want her dead because she's unpredictable and has the knowledge of the Quori spirit (who has no desire to die!). Gatekeepers want her dead because she's an Aberration. Kalashtar either want her protected as proof that good things can come from merging; or they want her dead, seeing her as a potential weapon of the Quori. And various other groups just want to experiment on her, and learn her secrets.

DMAC That is some sweet artwork. Good job! :)

Okay, here's a few ideas I had:

Halfling Necromancer

I've been wanting to do this for ages. ;) A halfling, originally from Talenta, but given an education in Sharn. In the process, he fell in with the Cult of Vol, but never became involved enough to actually learn any of their secrets. Instead, he studies Necromancy for its ties between blood, positive/negative energies, and life. He's now adventuring to learn more about various magics and species on the planet, collecting skulls as part of his practice (and as a hobby). He refuses to create undead, seeing them as a mockery of the living (one reason he never made it far in the cult), but is quite happy to study any undead/deathless he comes across.

Classwise, he'd be a Wizard (Necromancer) who eventually takes the Loremaster PrC, and possibly Archmage if the campaign went high enough.

Shifter Psychic Warrior

This one's a bit tricky. This shifter grew up among a small band of Kalashtar, who taught him some of their skills. They taught him to take advantage of his natural claws when shifting, enhancing them with psychic powers. He adventures now to gain experience in combat, and acting as a watchman for any Inspired activity on Khorvaire.

I'd run him as a straight-up PsyWar, focusing on claw enhancing abilities. Unfortunately, he can only shift once a day to start out, which means he'll be relying on a sword for most battles until he picks up more shifter feats. It'll be a tricky balance, but given the chance to shift and manifest certain powers, he'd be able to deal a few nasty attacks each day, while remaining a good second-teir warrior the rest of the time.

Elf Monk

A member of House Thuriani, this elf grew up in the home of a nobleman. He was brough up as a companion and protector for this noble, to always be at his side. As the war drew to a close, the noble was tasked with attending the meetings as the Treaty of Thronehold was drawn up. On their journey, however, they were ambushed by bandits. The defenders were slaughtered, the noble killed, and our monk was taken prisoner with a few others. He was tortured, forced to watch as some of his friends died, and was only able to escape when a rival raiding party of bandits struck the camp.

He was publicly shamed for allowing the noble to die, failing in his one duty in life. However, some evidence was unearthed that the 'bandits' were not entirely acting on their own. And, sometime between his escape and arriving home, the monk had manifested a Least Dragonmark of Shadow. Thus, the House sent him away to Sharn, where he would be called upon when needed. Which likely would be whenever they simply needed a disposable resource...

He now lives as a wandering warrior, seeking nothing but to improve his own skills in battle.

I would play him as an LN Monk, working towards the Whirling Steel Strike feat. He's played similar to a ronin, knowing he has lost the favor of his House and, worse, failed to protect someone important to him. Hopefully he'd lead to some good roleplaying, the classic "finding purpose in your friends" story. :)

Human Cleric of the Dragon Below

He was raised in a small community, devastated by the war. When not struggling to surive, he only had some old books for his companion: legends, stories and teachings from a branch of the Dragon Below Cult. His grandparents had been members, but his parents had left those teachings behind in favor of the Soverign Host.

Yet, the Host had done nothing for his community. Disease, hunger and murder had been a way of life. In these unusual stories, he found an answer: Perhaps the common belief was wrong. Khyber had been the protector and Siberys the aggressor. Mortals had maligned the wrong being, who was now trapped inside the body of Eberron with evil things festering in the wounds.

He eventually left home, and found others who worshipped Khyber. Many were insane, or twisted to evil purposes, which only furthered his belief that the true story of Khyber had been corrupted by mortals who did not understand the Truth.

The character is a CG Cleric of the Dragon Below, following his own interpretation of worship of Khyber. He strives to help others, believing that many have been misled by the popular stories. However, he knows many would simply lynch him for his heretical beliefs, so he often poses as a wandering mystic. He encourages those who will listen to question the popular beliefs, while striving to cut the cancer of Aberrations from the world-body.

Just think of your favorite conspiracy-theorist, and supplant aliens/ghosts/pan-dimensional-beings for Khyber and you've got him. He means well, and his faith is true... he's just a little 'off'. ;)

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be playing Eberron anytime soon (no gaming group), and I haven't read much of the book, but I read enough to get an idea for a character.

Inspired by the section on warforged where it mentioned that some nations retain warfarged as a form of slave labor, I evisioned a warforged monk, wielding a quarterstaff, who works for the liberation of his brethren. He would fall in with a company of adventurers who oppose, for whatever reason, either the Lord of Blades, or the nations/Houses that use warforged as slaves.

If you couldn't tell, I'm a big SG1 fan.
